Here are some of the coldest climates in the Lower 48 states. I tried to choose one per state but ended up having two from Minnesota and Wyoming. Fraser, Colorado, one of the towns frequently named the icebox of the nation: Stanley, Idaho, coldest low temps in America for a given day often happen here: Wild Horse Reservoir, Nevada, not inhabited but not the first thing you think of when you think Nevada: ( additional data) International Falls, Minnesota, official icebox of the lower 48: Embarrass, Minnesota, colder than International Falls and on the Canadian Shield: Randolph, Utah, which might be the coldest town in the state all around: West Yellowstone, Montana, coldest temperature recorded in an inhabited lower 48 city: Darwin Ranch, Wyoming, climate table speaks for itself: ( additional data) Big Piney, Wyoming: Here's a dry icebox. Might be your best bet at avoiding snow on the ground from early November to early May...

I vote for International Falls since it's the only one with average lows above 50 F in the summertime. Those out west climates are too dry and way too cold at night in the summer, but still interesting climates nonetheless.

Randolph. Technically Wild Horse is warmer overall, but it has colder summer nights and a less desirable precip pattern.

International Falls. It actually has a pretty good climate. I totally forgot that it received that much snow!

The Utah and Nevada places kind of stick out, theyβre noticeably less cold than the other places.
Anyway I pick Wildhorse.

They are all epic fail climates but I will pick Embarrass, MN as its name really reflects the climate. The climate is a total embarrassment.

Intl Falls for the best summers and not being an arid wasteland. Big Piney sounds miserable with all that cold and little snow to show for it. Kind of a Tibet-like place. I didn't know Wyoming had climates that dry.

International Falls, same reason as Alex. Plus relatively moderate diurnal ranges too.

Some pretty good climates here.
It's a tough choice between International Falls and West Yellowstone.
West Yellowstone gets my vote but not by much.

Wild Horse Reservoirβfor the highest snowfall, and (relatively) not-so-cold temps.

International Falls, great climate. Although I like cooler summers than most on here, I don't want the average low in July to be in the 30s FFS

International Falls for the humide subtropique summer nights.

International Falls for the best summers. Randolph doesn't look too bad either.
A New England climate would also be nice in that poll imho.

I like cold winters but I don't want frosty nights all summer.
Embarrass snow totals don't look right to me. Why would it get so much less than International Falls with colder temps and similar precipitation?
I might pick the icebox of the northeast over International Falls. As long as the icebox is a town and not Mt. Washington.
