Very muggy is all I can say about it geez. The snowfall data is still 1981-2010 but since December 1989 is out the data the likely 91-20 average for snowfall is a solid inch lower. Thats how much that storm skewed December! I dont understand why they dont have snow data smh. lots of stations lost it ! I mean i could use the raw snow data but its missing some years. Sea temps vary a lot here, the gulf stream is at its warmest 20-30 miles offshore and depending on wind direction the shore temps can vary. It can be as warm as the mid 70s in the waters even in middle of winter in the gulf stream, and when that water pushes closer to shore sea temps are in the 60s , away 50s, in summer low 80s is the average. In winter avg is low 60s or so, which is why this place is so damn warm.

D. Looks way warmer than it was Yep! Another one of those places Im suspect as hell of . Screw you NCEI! I think the raw data admittedly is not far off from this actually, it could be 81-10 had been adjusted pretty downwards and this wasn't done this time around.

C+ not too bad actually. Negatives are how wet it is, hurricanes and being prone to occasional winter cold snaps although they are much more moderated than compared to any place at the same latitude east of the rockies.

B+. Summers are long but not excessively hot, winters are short and mild. Loses points for high winter rainfall, however.

With those winter temps, including the historical lows, this would be a warm temperate climate in Australia. Even Melbourne has warmer winters..... In any case, its not too bad. B-

B- This climate is warmer than Melbourne however! Random once in a lifetime cold events arent going to trump that consistent very warm, wet season.

B- This climate is warmer than Melbourne however! Random once in a lifetime cold events arent going to trump that consistent very warm, wet season. I'm specifically referring to the 4 winter months Cape Hatteras - Dec 15.2c/7.2c, Jan 13.0c/4.8c, Feb 13.7c/5.3c, Mar 16.3c/7.9c. Melbourne ------ Jun 14.1c/6.9c, Jul 13.5c/6.0c, Aug 15.0c/6.7c, Sept 17.3c/8.0c. Nor do Melbourne's regular summer heatwaves +40c mean they have a hot desert climate. All I'm suggesting is that Cape Hatteras would not be thought of as 'subtropical' in Australia with winter temps colder than Melbourne. The summers are superb, of course, and I think its pretty good all things considered.

As far as things go though Hatteras is remarkably stable by eastern US standards lol, at that latitude other coastal stations have rec lows another 3-4 degrees colder and are zone 8b not 9a climes. Hatteras is a gem lol

Hatteras is a gem lol Yeah, its quite good. Its very difficult to find comparable climates in Australia to the south eastern USA, nothing lines up meterologically, be it heat, cold or rain over the yearly cycle. This is often amplified when some of my US mates want to grow Eucalyptus in the eastern regions, the climates are either too hot and humid, or too cold and wet. But then again, where is the fun in not zone pushing with plants ?

Been there quite a few times. Very humid in summer, and way too wet in winter and cloudy. That is why the milder winter lows due to cloud cover and the nearby gulfstream creating more cloudiness.
Never accept sunshine hours for what they claim in the US.
