The Australian coast, especially in the Roaring Fourties was a dangerous place in the days of sail and before modern navigational aids were commplace on ships. There are many historical lighthouses still in operation ( although mostly automated nowadays ). Here is a selection of some of them....where would you prefer to be posted as the Lighthouse Keeper ? Wilson's Promontory, Victoria Cape Byron, NSW Cape Borda, Kangaroo Is, South Australia. Cape Leewin, Western Australia Vlamingh Head, Exmouth, Western Australia Maatsuyker Is, Tasmania Gabo Is, Victoria Cape Wickham, King Is, Tasmania Cape Don, Northern Territory

Cape Borda looks the best overall.
Didn't realise that Wilson's Prom is the Australian version of Scilly.

I'll go with Gabo Island. Sensible temps and no summer drought.

Wilsons Promontory—winters almost the same as Maatsuyker, but summers significantly warmer.

Cape Don is by far the best of the bunch.

Cape Byron of course It's basically a tad more oceanic version of my dream climate

Cape Leeuwin, really good climate. I'd like some more seasonal variation like slightly warmer summers and slightly cooler winters, but the Mediterranean precipitation pattern is perfect.

Vlamingh Head has the best temps but gets fuck all thunderstorms so it has to be Cape Don.

A lot of these climates wouldn't seem out of place in NZ. Cape Don for me.

Cape Borda seems the best by experiencing year-round cool to mild variation in average-wise weather. Also, those summer diurnal ranges are better than the others.

Cape Byron. Warmer winters and probably the sunniest of the bunch.

Cape Byron's warm, sunny winters and plenty of t-storms sealed the deal for me, despite the high summer humidity. Although Cape Borda was a close second, the latter's winter drizzle and general cool and wind was not ideal.
