I have a forum question for all the Aussie forumers or anyone else who might have an idea. What is the lowest high temperature recorded in Australia for any town or settlement close to sea level (not more than 100 meters in elevation)?

I too am curious about this. Also, the same thing, but for New Zealand. Any Aussie or Kiwi weather people out there that might be able to help us?

Does it have to be on the mainland? If not, then Lord Howe Island easily makes the cut:

On the mainland Cape Byron would be a contender.

I'm kind of confused here. It seemed to me that the question was what the lowest max temp recorded at sea level was, not which climate has the lowest record high. Could be wrong, but that's what it seemed like to me.

I would imagine it is probably in the single digit Celsius range but not exactly sure.

As far as sea level lowest max temps go, Melbourne's all time low max is 4.4c back in 1901, thats the one I can quote without doing some research.

Lowest sea level max temps on the mainland ? Likely coastal Victoria which of course is also the highest latitudes as well, generally 37-38*S I've mentioned Melbourne's 4.4c previously, but unfortunately outside of the larger cities it is difficult to access accurate historical data. Coastal Victorian records of the modern era ( mostly post 1950 ) show low max's in the 6c-7c range at specific sites. Orbost - 5.6c Cape Otway - 6.7c Avalon Ap - 6.3c Queenscliff - 6.7c Sale - 6.7c Airies Inlet - 7.2c Mount Gambier - 7.2c ( SA ) Robe - 6.5c ( SA ) Port Lincoln - 8.3c (SA ) Ceduna - 8.1c ( SA ) Eucla - 9.4c ( WA ) Esperance - 8.6c ( WA ) Albany - 7.3c ( WA ) Bega - 7.6c ( NSW )

Tasmania has better ( or worse haha ) sea level low max temps. This was Hobart in the winter of 2015.

Deniliquin (Far Western NSW) undoubtedly holds the absolute record low max for any sea-level location: Max temp of just 3.9° C in Jul 1939, as well as 4.7° C in Jun 1989. Also note the more equatorward latitude (35° 32’ S) compared to the other locations listed by Greysrigging.

The 1939 reading looks a bit dodgy. The 1989 one is correct with many other neighboring sites recording record cold on that day, notably 3.8c in Echuca and 4.3c in Tatura. Some 5c and 6c's throughout Northern Victoria that two days in June. I was only looking at real sea level sites....but note that Deni at 96m asl just sneaks into the OP's criteria of low altitude sites to 100m asl. Speaking of dodgy recordings, Kerang at 82m asl shows a 1.6c max on 18th July 1918, Deni on the same day 6.1c, Mildura on the same day 11.1c and Rutherglen on the same day 6.4c. Hard to believe the Kerang reading....

If I recall correctly from a document, "44 degrees". So 6.5° C or near-about.
