It wont be a full on tropical place, otherwise there would be coconut palms on the beach. More likely east coast NSW, and likely southern NSW or at least south of Wollongong. I would possibly consider Mallacoota or Merimbula, but I dunno if the travellers palms grow ok that far south.

Ahhh... winners are grinners.... I walked this Track eons ago ( and took these pics ) The ones in the OP are of McKinnon Pass ( 1,156m asl ), the highest point on the 'walk' from Te Anu to Sandfly Point ( sea level ) on Milford Sound . Fiordland ( South Is, NZ ) is a stunnng part of the world..... Mitre Peak in Milford Sound is 1,683m asl One of the wttest places in NZ.
