So in the north we have Sheffield (where I live), which is clearly duller in sunshine hours but has milder summer maxes and snow every winter.
Isle of Portland located just off the south coast and very moderated by the English Channel, giving it a very anemic horribly mild climate with no real cold or snow in winter and no warmth in summer. However, it does get a lot more sun hours. I'd expect it gets much windier weather too and lots of fog being exposed as it is.

I choose Sheffield, more interesting in general. In fact, it's better in practically every way. Better summers, better winters, more precipitation, probably much more snow and more thunderstorms as well.

Sheffield by far. More snow and higher frequency of proper, thick, low-level dark cloud.

Isle of Portland. It’s still as “warm” as Sheffield in summer, but has a Mediterranean pattern as well.

Tough choice but I'll go with Shitfield for the warmer summers

Isle of Portland. Both have shit ass highs, so may aswell go with the one which has more sunshine and significantly better crummer lows.
I now see what they named Portland, Victoria after...

Isle of Portland. Both have shit ass highs, so may aswell go with the one which has more sunshine and significantly better crummer lows. I now see what they named Portland, Victoria after... Terrible choice for summer lovers! Summer high temps in these places aren't even close to comparable. IoP basically has Buxton summer highs with 4x the wind and such stability that there's almost nothing over 23-24°C which is often the hottest temperature of the year. The table doesn't show it but the record highs in IoP are non existent. It is so moderated that it has never reached 30°C (which happens almost once a year at Sheffield) and rarely even exceeds 21-22°C. In May/June it is persistently around 13-17°C with strong winds while the mainland can be basking in 20°C+ temperatures especially.
Take this June as an example: Avg high in Sheffield so far is 21.8°C, with a max of 26.7°C - IoP avg high is just 17.0°C with a max of only 21.7°C!
Take the summer of 2019 comparison:
July 2019 daily data, IoP.
July 2019 daily data, Sheffield.
And last July 2020 in IoP only reached 22°C as well, while Sheffield had 34°C on 31st!!!
My vote Sheffield, actually gets numerous warm spells in summer, and can get heat, as well as interesting winters with snow.

Sheffield
Might as well go for the one that at least has some potential for warmth in summer. It has more precipitation (a positive) too.

MET had no idea Portland's highs were that anemic. Just goes to show that averages don't tell the full story. To Portland's credit, the summer lows are warmer than just about anywhere in southern Victoria 15* closer to the equator Guess my vote is for Sheffield then.

Isle of Portland for being sunnier. If Sheffield had hotter summers then maybe it would have compromise things.
