Which hot place with plenty of indigenous and colonial history do you think has a better climate: Madurai: Valledupar: I'd go with Madurai, since at least January has the chance for bearable weather.

Madurai for having more interesting weather, and having a bit of a cool season.

Madurai for more variability and less rain, presumably less humidity too.

Actually an interesting climate battle. Madurai has the 'double monsoon' featuring heavily in the weather patterns, as does Valledupar. I choose Valledupar simply on the strength of greater rainfall totals, but really you could toss a coin for this battle. In these types of tropical climates, water is life !

Madurai frequently has water shortages. The Vaigai runs dry and farmers frequently have crop failures, and it leads to hunger problems and tensions among the poor.

Madurai
It has a cooler season. Valledupar is either very warm or hot all months of the year.

MaduraiIt has a cooler season. Valledupar is either very warm or hot all months of the year. Save a lot of money on heating and jackets and Ugg Boots. Living in a similar climate to these two, one only needs shorts, singlet and thongs ( oh and flip flops....haha ). and of course, a 'dress' t-shirt for formal occaisions, and a light cardigan in case the min temps drop below 20c in the dry season. I only wear ' longs' and boots if employment requires it and when flying on aeroplanes.

That is actually one of my top reasons for preferring warm climates - plus I feel more comfortable in lighter clothing anyway! I would just rather have a little bit of variation in temps, with a mild winter season (average high around 25 C) and a warm to hot summer (average high around 33 C) as opposed to the same temperatures year-round.

Both are impressively hot and surely rank among the hottest inhabited places on Earth. But I'll pick Valledupar for the higher frequency of rainfall. Madurai is right down the bottom of India, so would have consistently high humidity year-round. Yet it only has three months averaging over 100 mm of rainfall. If it's going to be that hot you want as much rain as possible - handsome, warm rain in the form of afternoon thunderstorms Speaking of which, Valledupar is located in one of the world's prime lightning hotspots (although Madurai is no slouch in this regard either).

Valledupar for having more rain, although I am skeptical of the temperature data.

Madurai. Not too wet, and it's also "milder"
