What happened on the 26th? I guess Lommie took a day off? Then just imagine "what if Lommie went on strike"? You'd last about an hour before getting withdrawal symptoms then come straight back

We had an average of 225 posts a day this week thanks mostly to a very strong weekend - the 3rd had more pageviews and more forum requests of any day since this forum began

May I just ask why the statistics and milestones are in the technical section and not in the "about" section?

Ask Lommo, he started both these threads It's best in here IMO because it means people can comment on them, the About section is for mod announcements only because we don't want it to get cluttered.

That was exactly what I meant by starting them here. Otherwise it'd just be me and Ben reading out stats. I prefer for there to be an actual conversation about those said stats in between those posts

An excellent 261 posts a day this week, unlike last week this time round it was the weekend when things were less busy.

Whoa, 340 posts on the 7th (last Wednesday) sweet! Hopefully we can keep up the activity. We're now up to 33 K posts 43 days into the year, which means we'd need 67 K in the remaining 322 days to get to 100 K, which is about 208 posts a day, down from the 211 posts a day we needed about a month ago.

We're still getting decent numbers of people logging on but there were an average of only 154 posts a day last week, don't know what happened there?

I think a lot of people were busy last week, I know I barely posted between last Thursday and Sunday. I did notice this board being quieter than normal.

Btw are only Administrators/Moderators allowed to view the posts per day? I was a bit curious to see how this week was going. I feel like yesterday had a lot of activity.

Obviously no trolling screenshots and me cutting down on my activity contributed to a nosedive. That goes without saying. Still even if I did 170 fewer posts and on average causing 100-150 replies, that doesn't account for that drop. I'm pretty happy with my current posting levels so if the forum settles down on 1,2-1,3 k a week even without me posting all over the place it's extremely healthy.

Yesterday was actually one of the worst days we've ever had posts-wise with only 130! Monday had 155. It doesn't count posts in the shoutbox though, I don't know how that's been going because I haven't been on much recently either because I'm so busy with other stuff at the moment. I did see 50 people on in the past 24 hours at some stage recently though so people are still logging onto the forum even if they don't have much to say. We've had slow periods like this before and come out the other side, I'm sure it will happen again

I think we've in a period where the initial topics have had their lifespan, and now we must come up with new ideas. Weather too hasn't helped us, before the heatwave in E US and the cold snap in Scandinavia, the weather has been quite settled for a prolonged time, even in Melbourne.
But the time I've been on this week it seems that the shoutbox has been as active as ever.

Posts are a very poor way of measuring activity on this forum, which is why I've never paid much attention to this thread. Obviously lots of discussions, many of them weather-related, take place in the shoutbox, and are therefore unaccounted for. The shoutbox is usually active around the clock.
Of course, a lot of the threads that generated lots of activity early on, especially in the CD Talk section, are now dead since people have rightly stopped caring about City Data.

I think we see an aspect where the activity quite often migrates to the shoutbox so that it transitions from a 50/50 chat/discussion forum more towards a 66/33 balance. So long as the shoutbox is being well and alive with probably around 20 very active members in the shoutbox, I think there's a strong assembly of activity each and every day. I think a lot of the activity spike in the threads was perhaps a bit of an attempt to kill C-D off, which frankly succeeded. Now that City-Data is firmly dead and buried whose little activity is dominated by dribble, fewer and fewer WWF members combine active memberships of both. Since C-D has fallen below critical mass, I'm not overly worried. I could certainly pick up my activity a little bit would I desire to do so, but most of all I think the challenge now is to make sure we become a successful "proper" weather forum in the threads, since that would engage more posters to take part in discussions, whereas the chat-related areas of this board become a bit secondary. Also, since Yac, Y-man and have lost, the City-Data section is sort of in a live-archive mode nowadays. So, all in all, I think we're doing very good Lost count of how many times I'm gone for five minutes and I can't even find the reply to a question I asked in the shoutbox.

We'll have weeks where we average 270 posts a day and other weeks where we'll only average 150-160. It all balances out. I wish there was a way to account for shoutbox activity. I do think posts per day is a bit misleading, it's good on paper and it's good because it's quantified unlike shoutbox.

Up until the last 10 days we were getting well over 200 posts nearly every day so I'm not worried. High post counts in the threads are good because they stick around for people to read later on unlike shoutbox posts, but a lot of the difference is just that people aren't interested in talking about C-D any more. The C-D talk section has 6000 or so posts in less than 200 days, so roughly 30 posts a day that we no longer get. I wouldn't want 30 extra posts on here every day just to make the numbers look good if it was the same old Y-man/ crap, I like it how we've outgrown that place. The real measure of how well the forum's doing as far as I'm concerned is how many people choose to log on and spend their time here every day, and it's usually in the 42-48 range which is still FAR more than I ever expected we'd get when we first started. Ultimately unless we start sourcing loads of people from somewhere new we're always going to be a relatively small group, and I know we've done our best in attracting members from City-Data so can't complain
