Was preparing to make such a graph myself for the 1 year anniversaries. Not as stark as I'd have predicted, but the overall theme is clear.
More recruitment is essential for our long-term survival. This isn't something we can ignore for much longer.

I want to know what happened in early February. The drop in activity there is astounding, and something we never managed to recover from. So weird

January/ February was the peak of the forum from my memory. Perhaps just timing, or perhaps people just find winter the most interesting season?
Whatever the case, we should aim to reach or exceeded those levels next winter!!!

Not going to name names, but some people are extremely active in the shoutbox but rarely post in the threads. I find that irritating. Are they scared of having a high post count or do they just love the shoutbox? Either way it hits the stats. Can't count how many times I log into an active shoutbox but a forum with tumbleweeds blowing through it.
Partly why I lobbied against the shoutbox when this place first started. I use it, but I still feel that we'd be better without it at times. Absorbs much of the activity and is the sources of at least 90% of the negative tension on here. I knew the gossip box was trouble early on and have always said it was.

Nice work Giorbanguly , could you do one for forum requests as well since that includes shoutbox activity also? Something tells me that it'll be a bit more stable then.
As for the exact date when activity started fading I think it had a lot to do with the suspension of Owen, after the C-D conflict was halted he single-handedly drove activity levels up due to his controversial posts and high activity in the unhappy thread.

There are times here when people complain on the shoutbox it's dead when they could be making, or replying to new posts. Most of those have high post counts, but it sometimes feels like people rely on the shoutbox for forum "entertainment".
Shoutbox is just better at getting engagement. I make a lot of posts, but it's hit or miss whether they get a response and some weather graphics people read but don't have much to say back

Still checks out For the record I don't really wanna get rid of the shoutbox, would be nice if people made an effort to use the threads more

I recall the decline began before Owen, he did bring a boost but it was an anomaly, boke. Sometimes you have to look beyond the numbers. Owen increased activity through drama and conflict, whereas much of the early activity came from me and you commenting 500 times a day and Ryan spamming, "Yac likes penis farts" everywhere. Peak of the forum in a productive sense was the winter. Guess a spike at that time of year is to be expected, and maybe we'll get another winter boost later this year.

I wouldn't worry too much. This is usually the most boring time of year in most places in the northern hemisphere and a year ago the activity was artificially high. That said, gotta keep those numbers up or the shareholders and investors are not gonna be happy in the upcoming quarterly report!

At least better than two weeks ago, but obviously lower than what should be aimed at. I think for the time being establishing it above 150 per day would be a sizeable improvement.

You're never going to get more than perhaps one response in a thread unless you just started a controversial debate.
Half the time you get zero response.
