Round 2 screaming in from the East.... From Nikko, via 'Pilkos Chat On Weather' FB page. "Good evening Ladies, Gents and transgender individuals. Been holding off this post, waiting for the latest EC Thundercast to come out but it's late and the radar is showing me what I need to know lol. Anyone that's ask me today would have seen me mention storms tonight, look to our east in the radar and along comes potential Number Uno. EC for the last few days has been keen on late evening storms for us in the NW Darwin region and it would appear that the weather Gods are providing. Only issue we have is Darwin's ex storm and it's exhaust floating above us. This should disappear soon enough to allow this beaut to provide those that missed the rain earlier a second chance. However all is not lost, if Numero Uno doesn't make it then we have Numero dos (oh however it's spelt lol). Which is a little further out but has the potential of making it all the way too. However at this stage I'm pretty confident on Numero Uno making it. Rain dance everyone.":

The first week of November and the storm season has really cranked up big time. A real rip snorter in the early hours dropped 82mm at Gunn Point and 30.4mm in my home gauge. My son took some pics ....

What a difference a week makes ! Another slow moving noisy storm laden with rain is passing through the Darwin region atm. Upwards of 50mm in the outer suburbs, and 23mm so far in my gauge....deliciously cool damp morning.

Looks like a high degree of shittiness is about to return on the weekend and into next week. The forecast is showing a surge of drier air combined with a moderate heatwave across the Top End. I can't recall ever seeing a pair of consecutive 37c temps in a November forecast previously. Having said that, Nov 2020 was a record breaker with six days +36c and one +37c day, The mean max for the month was 35c, also a record. The record max for November is 37.3c in 2018, so next week may well give that record a bit of a shake.

JFC ! has anyone ever seen 4 consecutive 37c days forecast at the Airport ? There's only been 18 such days since 2000 and 14 such days 1941-2000 ! So a forecast like this, if it comes off, really is one for the record books.... Note that today's forecast of 34c was exceeded by 1.8c....

Apparently a new November heat record in Darwin today, 38.3c at 3.14pm. A full 1c above the previous Nov record. Well, I've been outdoors in it all day and I'm calling b/s as are quite a few other weather nerds on local FB pages. Mind you, these are 'feelings', not raw data. A dry surge came through dropping humidity and dp's to very low levels for November. The temp peaked at 36.1c at 11.17am ( which I don't believe either ), dropped back into the mid 33c's, then spiked between 3.00pm and 3.30pm to 38.3c. Here are the BOM stats today.... looks fishy to me.... 38.3c at 3.14pm ? Fucked if I can see it.....

As I predicted, the BOM has revised the suss 38.3c reading from yesterday down to 36.0c. The Airport AWS has suffered a few glitches in the last 36 hours, fixed now.

What an amazing weather system we are experiencing atm. A severe heatwave impacting the Top End of the Territory with a chance of new November heat records being set. AND record cold as well ! Very dry air has caused overnight mins tp plummet to record levels in the Darwin rural areas. And near 20c diurnals are just about unheard of this deep into the Aussie Tropics

Northern Australia To Face A Weeklong Heatwave ( Source: Weatherzone ) Image: Forecast maximum temperature on Monday, November 22, according to the ECMWF-HRES model Heatwave conditions ranging from low to extreme are expected for the northern WA, much of the NT, and northern QLD between today (Saturday 20th) and Thursday 25th. Troughs are maintaining heat over the interior bringing clear skies and increasing the temperature for the northern parts of Australia. It is important to remember that heatwaves represent more than a high maximum temperature on a given day. They are a combination of unusually hot maximum and minimum temperatures over three consecutive days in relation to local weather climate. Without lower temperatures at night to recover, heatwaves impact the population's health and infrastructure. There are three levels of heatwave: low (most people can cope), severe (challenging for vulnerable populations), and extreme (dangerous for anyone who doesn’t take protective action). Knowing there is a high probability of a coming heatwave, it is crucial to prepare yourself. Doctors and local health authorities understand the impact of heat on each communities' health. They can provide advice on how to prepare and cope with heatwave conditions. You can also look at your State/Territory website for information.
