Which location do you prefer: Casper, WY: Bunghole (Binghamton, NY): I'm going with Bunghole.

Casper, although they're both horrific.

Binghamton for moderated diurnal ranges, lower summer record highs & milder average highs.

Both are really bad, but I choose Casper for being sunnier, having drier summers and warmer summer highs. I'm surprised how cold both these climates are - these are the kinds of climates I'd expect to find in Alaska.

Both very good but I'll give the edge to Binghamton. Very high sunshine hours year round!

Theyโre pretty standard continental climates and way warmer than anything youโd see up in Alaska. Maybe the lows in Casper but their highs are way warmer than what you would find in any subarctic place.

I was just surprised to see lows below freezing for half the year at 42 N.

Both are truly awful, but at least Casper is sunny. Vote: Casper

"""Binghamton""" in a heartbeat.
I say it mockingly because it's not the actual Binghamton, but a 500 m AMSL hilltop station overlooking the city (AKA the source of Gayor's boteving). The actual Binghamton is much warmer (especially by maxima) and sunnier/drier.

Both climates are pretty good, but Binghamton it is for being wetter and not featuring stupidly high diurnals.

Why would a valley be sunnier than a hilltop station? Because clouds are naturally attracted like magnets to exposed hilltops i.e., stronger uplift increasing the RH% relative to altitude (thereby cooler maxima for said altitude). Basically: a 500 m hilltop is much cloudier and cooler by maxima than a 500 m valleyโฆso you can imagine how stark the difference would be in comparison to a 260 m valley like Binghamton.

Binghamton for being wetter and a little bit snowier, even though Casper is more interesting, the dryness would probably drive me a bit nuts.

Reluctantly Binghamton for getting more rain and a longer snow-free season, despite Casper's greater sun. Also think most of the city has a warmer climate than the airport.

I'm choosing Bunghole, and I hate Bunghole. Casper has recorded a frost in every month, and that's unforgivable.
