Here's a wine-tasting trip that will take us on a journey all across the US of A. There's a surprising amount of climatic diversity when it comes to the wine regions of this country. It's not all in a mild section of Northern California, contrary to popular belief.
North Fork Long Island is our first stop, having a warm temperate climate with spring and fall precipitation peaks.
Finger Lakes is the coldest major wine region in the country, with similar growing season conditions to German wine regions, but much colder winters.
Willamette Valley is situated in a mild temperate Mediterranean zone, although its record highs and lows are both impressively extreme.
Napa Valley, also with its Mediterranean climate, is definitively the nation's most famous wine region.
Columbia Valley is located in a steppe region in the rainshadow of the Cascades, giving it its four-season desert climate.
Texas Hill Country is situated west of Austin in a transitional zone between semiarid and subtropical zones.
Paso Robles lies in a hot Mediterranean to semiarid zone to the northwest of the LA area.

I'll pick Napa Valley, for the nice mild wet winters and warm summers. Paso Robles is too dry despite the hotter summers.

Richland. It was a close call between that and Riverhead but the greatly decreased cold rain and better temps won out.

Texas Hill Country. The Californian ones are okay, but suffer from cold summer lows.

Salem. Napa and Ithaca would be okay-ish.

Knew my pick without even looking at the list. Finger lakes it is, one of the better climatic regions in the whole wide World.
Btw, now climate boxes for a lot of PNW and BC locales look silly with that June 2021 heatwave.

How much snow does that Long Island location get? There’s shit tons of missing data but over its 1937-2021 PoR, 28” per year. 5” each in Dec and Mar, and 8” each in Jan and Feb.
