Rate The Climate: Yuendumu, Northern Territory

Yuendumu is a blackfella community located about 300klm north west of Alice Springs on the edge of the Tanami Desert. Home to approx 800 residents, mostly identified as Walpiri Aboriginal Australians. Its harsh country out this way, and Yuendumu itself suffers from all the standard social disfunction issues that seem to be endemic to remote outback Indigenous settlements. The people themselves have produced some of the most talented Central Australian artists, painting in traditional styles. I myself have a genuine didgeridoo decorated by a local artist.
The town site itself is at 667m altitude, which does modify the extreme heat of the region, and in the winter months frosts are not uncommon.
