Looks like December is gonna end up being colder than an average January, and will end up being the second coldest month of the year after February. It would be so nice if the rest of the winter was milder and we got the worst of the cold out of the way already.
Got two highs below -30C in the forecast this week, I'm thinking they probably won't happen (as they usually don't), but who knows. In February we had one high of -30.4C and that's the only time I've seen a sub -30C high in recent years, it's a very rare occurrence even here.

Nearby Bibe RGV had slightly hotter temps—reached 96°F apparently but as it's RAWS it's not counted as official Slight correction. It's not that it's not counted because it's RAWS, but rather because it's a non-climate RAWS station. There are plenty of RAWS stations that are included in the climate record. I will trust something like Rio Grande Village COOP over any RAWS though. Many RAWS tend to have sensor placement that is a little bit too low and is reflected in their exaggerated diurnals. |

Perfect beach day here yesterday, high/low of 82/63 with totally sunny skies. More of the same today and tomorrow with the forecast turning very warm late week. 90s possible well inland, at least on TWC. NWS going with upper 80s, and mid 80s here.

If temps stay below -7c at the airport today it'll be the coldest high since at least 1996. |
