NWS is forecasting 86 F/30 C for Jan 2, which ties the January record high since 2002. WU is trending even higher and following the ECMWF much more closely, which is usually the most accurate model for this area. It's showing a high of 88 F.

OKC is now supposed to get rain today, ruining their shot at a December without measurable precipitation.

We hit an official low of -39.7C yesterday. Damn it, nature, why couldn't you drop 0.3C more and get us to hit that -40 mark? Hitting -40 on two separate months of the year would've been so epic!

Got up to 84F today which is just 1F short of the all time record high of 85F for the month of December! The past two days it got up to 83F. Without today's temps included, this December will be 12.1F warmer than normal. 1.5F warmer than the previous warmest December on record (1933).

NWS is calling for a 30% chance of wintry mix tomorrow! Wasn't expecting to see this (some models had been showing a bit of light wintry precip in Louisiana behind the cold front). Hard to imagine wintry precip after having high temps close to 80F since Christmas Eve.

Little new year crummary
NYE got to 39.7C under clear skies and no wind. Today got to 39.5C, the temp was racing up in the morning until some queer southerlies around 10.00am, then it stalled. Then it became full overcast, and temp went up to 39.5C, short of the 41C forecast. So this spring/summer, it still hasn't hit 40C. Still, it has been reasonably hot lately. Tomato plants are hating it, they're turning fucking yellow. Yellow like Australia's invaders from the north.
Tomorrow 38C and then summer is done for 2022. No 40C possible in either ACCESS or the 2-week GayFS. Hell, 30C will be a lucky strike.

The latest NAM run is showing a decent amount of snow to my northwest tomorrow. The GFS and Euro don't show this. It will be interesting to see what ends up happening. I'd be surprised to see actual accumulation.

The Saskatchewan Research Council's weather station (the only one in Saskatoon that actually publishes sunshine hours every month) has finally got their IT issues fixed and have been publishing monthly summaries again for the first time since August! And unsurprisingly, it was a very sunny fall, just like the rest of the year.
Unfortunately October is missing about a week's worth of days, but even with that missing data it still only came out 4 hours below average, meaning it was almost certainly significantly sunnier than average. With the available data, this brings Saskatoon to 2561.8 hours as of the end of November (December's summary should be coming this week sometime). Assuming December had exactly average sunshine (86.5 hours) that would bring the yearly total to 2648.3, just 40 hours shy of the all-time sunshine record of 2686 hours. Given how sunny it was in the fall, there's a good chance that that missing week from October adds up to 40-ish hours.
So 2021 will almost certainly end up either breaking or just missing the all-time sunshine record by just a few hours one way or the other. Thankfully Environment Canada still tracks sunshine hours even though they don't actively publish them, so if we ended up setting a record I'm sure we'll hear about it.

Recording something and not publishing it is the stupidest thing Iโve heard. Fort Collins had a high of only 13 (-11 c) today and has now dipped below 0. By far the coldest temps of the season. Also between 6-8โ of snow fell, stupid missing data though so canโt say for sure yet. Meanwhile here in Shitchester it was a shitty rainy day.
