Was below freezing for most of the day but managed to avoid an ice day yesterday as the high temperature of 42 was recorded at midnight, before the cold front swept through. Tomorrow looks like shit, low 20s with bitter northerlies.

Cold, but not like during WW2 or Soviet occupation. As always more human in the West. Minimal temperatures:

Seems we undershot a bit with the low. Forecast was -18C, but I expected it to fall close to -20C. But nope, "only" a -17.0C low last night. Still the coldest night of the year.

In a wonderful twist of fate, the first 11 days of January are averaging 17.1C/28.1C. We should still be there by the middle of the month, however it will cool down briefly before temperatures begin to rise again.

Today attained the Great Pisstake, 39.9C, after a 25.6C low.
Humidity was unusual for this hyperdry climate which normally spams southerlies off the world's coldest ocean, with dewpoints around 17-19C, you could really feel it. After 3-4 weeks of greed, the New South Wankers decided to spread the love.
Had some lightning this evening with some epic anvil crawlers. The cloud looked like gay mid-level layer stratocrapulus, then suddenly, a crisp epic lightning just courses across half the sky, superimposed seemingly below the cloud. Today is obviously the best day of summer 2021/22.
25/40C and storms forecast tomorrow, needless to say I have my booze ready.

Today will be much milder than it's been, might even go above freezing with a high of 32 F (0.0 C) predicted, TWC has us above freezing at 33 F (0.6 C). If it does indeed go above freezing, it'd be the first time since Christmas Eve that it does so.
We had a pretty good snowfall event forecast for Thursday night / Friday (4-8" / 10.2 - 20.3 cm) forecast but that got downgraded to 2-4" (5.1 - 10.2 cm). Hopefully the storm track favors us a bit more to get some higher amounts.
Not that mild right now, temperature is 6 F (-14.4 C) and cloudy with a SE breeze just before 9 AM. Low this morning was -1 F (-18.3 C) just before 1 AM.

A good start to the ice winter in the baltic sea. The Gulf of Bothnia will soon be covered in ice - freezing tonight
The Gulf of Bothnia is almost completely covered with ice from Örnsköldsvik and north. Tonight, the last open area is expected to freeze.
It is unusually early, according to SMHI's meteorologists.
- It has not happened so often in the last ten years that there has been as much ice at this time as it is right now, says Magnus Larsson, ice meteorologist at SMHI, to Piteå-Tidningen.
The last time this happened was in 2011. In the 1980s, the Gulf of Bothnia was covered with ice seven winters out of ten, but in the last 30 years the winters have been milder. However, the cover can be short-lived. As early as Wednesday, positive temperatures and strong southerly winds are expected, but Magnus Larsson believes that the ice will settle again when the cold returns.
- There are great conditions for that. The water is really cool, he tells PT.www.svt.se/nyheter/lokalt/norrbotten/snart-ar-bottenviken-tackt-av-isToday's ice map.

Buenos Aires hit 41.1C (106F) today. A really historic day. It became the 2nd highest temperature ever recorded, only behind the legendary 43.3C from 1957, and just the 6th time it reached at least 40C/104F. Next Friday today’s mark might be surpassed, and may even challenge the all-time record. It might also break the highest low on record (28.2C). Let’s see what happens…
