Cold today and tomorrow with highs only around 40ยฐF (4ยฐC) in the Raleigh area. But nothing like what other places are experiencing.
Edit: I meant to make this post yesterday and forgot to click reply until today.

Had t-storms yesterday evening and overnight with lots of lightning. Probably the most I've seen since September. I got 1.10" of rain.
Unfortunately a tornado struck overnight about 50 miles to my west. 15 homes were damaged or destroyed in a rural area - 5 were injured in a mobile home.
Quite warm today, a bit warmer than expected. Up to 78F right now with dewpoint of 68F. Cold front arriving later forecast to bring temps down to the mid 30's by tomorrow morning.

Nice warmup starting tomorrow, finally. We've had a whopping 30 hours above -20C since Christmas Eve, and now the weekly forecast has no highs or lows below that after tonight, so that's gonna feel amazing.

Top forecast is for NYC while the bottom one is for Breckenridge CO, a ski town at 9600 ft in the Rockies. Funny how comparable they are this week: Also I found out from one of edmountain's posts about these epic lows in Yukon; coldest Canadian temps of the season. Lucky bastards up there:

Been a pretty solid winter here thus far. December ended up 1.5 F (0.8 C) above average, but that's quite good considering that at mid-month we were running at 7 F (3.9 C) above average, so the second half of December was solidly cold. The month was quite a bit snowier than average too (17.9" / 45.5 cm vs the average of 9.3" / 23.6 cm) at the airport. It was likely a fair bit snowier than that here (we're well north and west of the airport, I'd estimate we had roughly two feet / 61 cm in December). January so far has been quite cold, averaging 10.9 F / -10.2 F (-11.7 C / -23.4 C) at St. Cloud Airport and 9.1 F / -17.4 F (-12.7 C / -27.4 C) at Rice, MN (COOP station closest to my house), which is 12 F (6.7 C) and 14 F (7.8 C) below average respectively. Dropped to -31 F (-35 C) on the morning of the 7th, so a pretty fun winter so far. Right now, a few minutes before 9 AM, it's -14 F (-25.6 C) with a pretty stiff NW wind. Wind chill outside likely around -35 F (-37.2 C), quite cold today with a high of 0 F (-17.8 C) predicted and sunny skies. Big warm up on the way though (high of 30 F / -1.1 C predicted tomorrow) but it looks quite brief. Long-range forecast show late January will be cold here.

It's been kind of dry lately. I'm now in moderate drought though northeast LA is in extreme drought. Seems like it's been a while since that level of drought has been in LA. Seems we're right on the border of no drought and moderate drought here. Kinda strange, as Oct-Dec had above normal precipitation. And evaporation rates at this time of year are minimal. This area did have a pretty dry summer though. July in particular, only had 0.83" of rain versus the average of 3.60". Maybe it's still recovering from that?

Thanks to the BOM BUMMERS in their illustrious campaign of killing weather stations, we'll never know what happens at that site. There's been a massive decline in weather stations since the 90s here in Canada too. Case in point, the Lower Mainland (Vancouver region) used to have multiple stations in every city which was a great to see in representing most of the microclimates in the region. Nowadays... entire cities have none.
