Clearly you need lessons in basic meteorology first, before attempting to score a gotcha point with me. Summer and near-summer cold records in AU, are very much relevant to this discussion. In case you forgot already, this discussion was entirely in relation to the ratio of cold records to heat records in the Australian warm season. Also, "the past two summers" were actually cooler than average in AU, so nice try . Steelergaytion unironically tried to use a highly idiotic ratio: those of absolute cold records i.e., those of winter minima to those of summer maxima. But then again…you don't give a fuck about accuracy or integrity to care enough about this discussion. All you care about is your political energy policy nonsense—that much is certain.
The article was about heat, not cold. Cold records would be another article. Granted, Australia doesn't get very cold, so a record low of -7C or something would create a so what reaction with the public. 51C again is extraordinary on all standards.
News articles about weather don't need to be balanced in that way. When Lytton hit almost 50C last summer, you don't need to mention that Canada also hit -50C for "balance", it's irrelevant to the subject, which was the Canadian heat record.

Arbitrary BS such as "national record low" (especially by absolute terms), is meaningless in this discussion about Australian heat…are you being thick on purpose? I can't tell. It should be very clear by now that SH trends, are not in sync with those of the NH—and must not be compared under any circumstances. Which is why that article is complete BS. Not rocket science matey! Put your thinking cap on! Fuck me you is a daft innit. I agree that cold records are irrelevant in an article about heat records, after all in an article about record cold you wouldn’t say well there was also this heat record. But apparently you don’t think so since you said the article should’ve mentioned cold records. And since it was listing national record highs, then national record lows would be an appropriate cold record to include, except there aren’t any. And if you want to limit it to the summer months, I doubt any countries have had their coldest summer temps ever recently. Maybe a few stations, but again not what the article is about.

Strongest wind in last 14 years (since 2008) in Riga and Bauska, wind gusts in meters per second: Photos: Wind damage on Friday in Latvia eng.lsm.lv/article/weather/weather/photos-wind-damage-on-friday-in-latvia.a438854/I know that you guys don't believe in astrology, but Moon is in Gemini in these 2 and half days. Gemini is an air sign and Moon is in Gemini can signify windy weather. It repeats every month for 2, 2 and half days. Another thing, Jupiter is in Pisces till 10 May and then from 28 October till 20 November. I have noticed that many areas experience an increase of precipitation which fits this planetary transit.

Yes, most of us don't, but at the end of the day, is astrology really any less accurate than accuweather seasonal forecasts or 384h GFS runs?
Hamal, which is the brightest star in my constellation, and Sirius, which is the brightest star in the sky after the Sun (like I am on this forum), are saying that this spring will be record warm in Turku, but record cold in Riga and Umeå. Sorry!
---
In other news, another mild day on midwinter standards with a 6.9C high and 1.6C low. Snowpack down to 5 cm compared to 12 cm two days ago.

I doubt there has been any month in history when Turku was record warm, while Riga and Umeå were record cold. There must be a pretty unreal weather pattern for that. Invent something realistic. Surprised that there is snow in Turku. Snowless in Riga since Thursday.

I don't think it can happen. But I put my hope on Hamal. Realistic? Turku and Riga might have the coldest February since 2000. Happy now?
We got 21 cm of snow on Christmas, and also got some fresh snow after new year, so we probably had a much deeper snowpack than you had. Even the Åland islands have a couple of cm left though they were the mildest. Jomala near Mariehamn had a 8.8C high yesterday, which is extraordinarily mild for January.

Storm coming up here Sunday night into Monday. Should be mostly rain here at the coast (NWS has a less than 10% chance of an inch of snow), with tropical storm force sustained east/southeasterlies as well as around 2" of rain

We have a 30% chance of snow here tomorrow from the storm system that will later impact the Northeast. Sadly, even if it does snow, it won't be enough to improve the drought situation.

That system could bring light snow accumulation down to north Louisiana! I may get a few flurries tomorrow night. Got up to 71F here today. Warmest part of the day tomorrow will be in the morning before front arrives with temp dropping to the 40's in the afternoon.

NAM has mostly rain, snow only for northern New England and the westernmost parts of PA and NY Yeah heavy snowfall accumulations are looking less and less likely. Still may get some accumulating snow before a changeover to all rain. Winter Storm Watch still in effect but wouldn't be surprised if downgraded to an advisory.

Finally back to real winter cold here. -10 F (-23.3 C) and clear here at 8 AM, with a nice coating of ice on all the trees. We must've gotten some freezing fog overnight. Really beautiful outside right now with the freshly fallen snow from yesterday's storm.
Today is forecast to be seasonably cold, high of 10 F (-12.2 C) and sunny. Fantastic winter weather.

As expected the Winter Storm Watch was downgraded to a Winter Weather Advisory. Still will hopefully get a couple inches of snow before changing to rain.
