The pressure wave from the volcanic explosion in Tonga arrived in the UK just before 7pm, as can be seen on this graph from my PWS. It took about 14 hours to travel just over 10,000 miles.

Alright, so today reached 39.9C , the second 39.9C day in a week. Had 6 days over 39C so far this month, but only 1 over 40C. Overcast moved in in the early afternoon so it was soon clear that would be the high.

The largest volanic eruption in the 21th century just occured. Will be interesting to see if it can make a slight impact on the global temperatures.

Cold snap coming to an end tonight as the temperature will rise above freezing as a storm system moves in. Despite the rain, we may end up with a respectable 3-5 inches of snow before the changeover. Decent temperature swing with a low of 2 F/-16.6 C this morning and a high near 40 F/4 C tomorrow.
Lowest windchill this morning was -12 F/-24 C.

Didn't get quite as mild as predicted here today, predicted high was 34 F (1.1 C) and it only reached 30 F (-1.1 C), still a fair deal above average, but at least not freezing. Somewhat of a "fizzer" but I don't mind underperforming highs in winter. A couple of more mild days (tomorrow and Tuesday) before a huge temperature drop comes this way. Tuesday, the forecast is 34/-7 F (1.1/-21.7 C) Wednesday has -2/-20 F (-18.9 / -28.9 C) predicted and Thursday has -4/-21 F (-20.0 / -29.4 C), looking forward to it. Pattern locks in for a generally cold pattern afterwards as well. Looking increasingly likely this January will end up colder than normal.

A winter storm watch is in effect for much of the province.
A storm system is supposed to bring high winds and up to 10cm of snow in a lot of places tomorrow and the day after, and potential freezing rain just beforehand. Thankfully we're only expecting 2 to 4 cm in Saskatoon but still could get a bit treacherous.
Afterwards, we're expecting a very cold couple of days before a return to more seasonal temperatures.
