More Than 800,000 Lightning Strikes Hit WA Yesterday ( source: Weatherzone ) Lightning strikes over WA yesterday Fri 11th 17:20 AWST More than 800,000 lightning strikes hit WA yesterday afternoon and evening as severe thunderstorms developed over a broad area of the state. Abundant tropical moisture fed into a trough which extended well south into the state. The highest density of strikes was registered over southwestern areas of WA, with about 630,000 lightning strikes within 800km of Southern Cross in the Central Wheat Belt district. Severe thunderstorms also caused wind gusts exceeding 100km/h (137km/h in Jacup and 100km/h in Hopetoun North). Scattered-to-widespread convective activity leading to flash flooding and possibly damaging winds, should continue today and over the next couple of days as tropical moisture and unstable conditions will linger over the region. The areas affected should include the Pilbara, Gascoyne, Kimberley, Central West, northern parts of Central Wheat Belt and western areas of the Southern/Northern Interior.

Very cold this morning, -18 F (-27.8 C) with a -33 F (-36.7 C) wind chill with mostly clear skies, awesome morning. Predicted high of 1 F (-17.2 C) here today, I hope we underperform a little bit today so we can have a subzero high.

NWS completely blew the forecast again as it dropped down to 31 F/-1 C...over 10 F cooler than expected. Just looking at the dewpoints last night indicated it could be significantly cooler but southerly winds and cloud cover were in the forecast. There were some light winds recorded overnight but it was remained clear.
Already up to 45 F/7 C at 9AM and it's expected to get into the 50s today.

Beautiful snowy morning here after a spring-like high of 54 F/12 C yesterday. Unless it gets warmer than forecast, the high of 35 F/2 C will be at midnight. Not expected to get above freezing for the rest of the day.

Getting a nice little unexpected snow burst this morning. Freshening up the snowpack We had that happen last night here as well, we had some snow in the forecast but no accumulation, but ended up getting about 0.5-0.75" (1.27-1.78 cm) of snow. Not a huge amount obviously, but it did freshen up the snow pack. We have 1-2" (2.54 - 5.1 cm) of snow forecast here today, which will be nice, and a good upgrade in the forecast (which called for a dusting to 1" at most). Very cold here today again, -13 F (-25.0 C) and sunny here just after 9 AM, after a morning low of -15 F (-26.1 C). Predicted high is 5 F (-15.0 C) with snow moving in after about 4 PM or so.

Severe weather threat this week (Wed & Thurs) and maybe more coming over the next few weeks with warmer temps and an active pattern. Could use some rain here as it's been kind of dry lately. Heavier rain may be to my north with this week's event.

Airport here officially sitting at zero precipitation for the month, although I did get ~2cm of snow in the first 3 days of the month. Nothing here since then though.
Supposed to get 2cm tomorrow but rest of the month is looking bone dry. Either way it will end up being a very dry (and mild) month.

Same thing here, haven't seen bare ground, but sunny spots you can see the taller sprigs of grass popping through. Snowpack holding stead around 4", but warmup seems to be coming later this week which will probably eliminate it

Variable weather lately. High/low of 60/42 and partly cloudy for another springlike day yesterday, then cold front came thru and picked up 0.19” of precipitation which gave way to around 2” of snow here. At least NWS has it back in the 60s here this week

Reached 60 (16 c) today, the first of the year. Came after a chilly 18 (-8 c) low.
Also the snowpack was officially a trace today for the first time since December 30th. This ends the snowcover streak at 44 days, the 8th longest on record.
