Meanwhile here in subtropique New Jersey it was nearly 60 F/16 C with showers today. Breezy with light rain and a temp of 57 F/14 C as of the 7:00PM update. Forecast low of 30 F/-1 C tonight so a pretty decent swing. Only a high of 37 F/3 C forecast for tomorrow.

Aye, but not 10/10 for a voyage. Myself and the crew have come ashore. The ol' girl got roughed up by Arwen, so she'll stay in port until New Year. I expect the lads will keep themselves busy in the local taverns and whorehouses until then.

High was only 28 (-2 c) today, the first ice day since February.
Overcast skies made it feel very wintry, definitely a big change from the recent warmth, yesterday it was 64 (18 c) and Thursday it was 74 (23 c).
Unfortunately no snow but we might get some at the end of the week.

Not just the coldest day of the month, but the coldest day of all of 2021. The furious start to this winter is a bit surprising, as January is usually colder than December. It is also clear that this cold was concentrated in the eastern and south-eastern parts of my country. Võru had a low -26.0c, which is the absolute lowest this year. The day was sunny, with fog in the evening and in the morning, which can sometimes be when it is very cold. Somewhat surprisingly, the national cold record was registered at Tartu station: -27.6c. Well done, this is quite a large break from the old record for that date, the previous record for that date being -24.3c from 1959. Tallinn had a low of -20.2c, which is also a record break on that date, the previous record was -18.8c from 1959. The cold air mass is receding to the east, nothing happened in the more western neighboring cities. Turku's low was -20.2c, but the current record for that date is -26.4c from 1980. Riga's low was -14.8c, which is very far from the record for that date which is -23.4c from 1959. However, Latvia still owns the absolute Baltic cold record of 2021, which is -31.0c and was registered in January in Jelgava. ----------- Situation with snow today: It is interesting that the official amount of snow in Tallinn has significantly decreased. The snow has probably thickened. However, it is one of the snowiest places now: At the same time, Haapsalu, which is 55 miles from it, is quite snow-free; there is no official snow measurement there: Photos from media.

So, I thought yesterday would be the coldest day of this cold spell (and the whole year), but nope, today was colder. The high was -14.9C and the low -20.2C. Days as cold or colder in December as today happened 9 times during the last normal period. So 0.97% of all December days.
edit: not the coldest day, 15 January was slightly colder.

recent rain melted lots of low elevation snow in Vermont and New Hampshire to notice almost all the snow north of the St. Lawrence River survived well. that's roughly the line of "snow never melts in winter, lasts past March". maybe a bit further north of the river? ===== alex992 snowpack doesn't look deep

First ice day of the year. High of just 25 F and overcast. Low was 18 F. Pathetic diurnals. I was hoping the low could drop into the single digits.

It's been cool these past couple days, with afternoon temperatures in the upper 40s °F (~9°C). It's nothing too unusual for this time of year, but given it's been so mild this fall, it feels cold.

Bureau of Meteorology The heat that has been building over northern WA has made its way over the south-west of the state, where residents can expect the hottest conditions so far this summer. Perth is on track to hit 40 °C today, its hottest day since 8 January 2021, and many other locations across southern WA will reach the mid-to-high 30s in coming days, which is up to 15°C above average for this time of year. High temperatures are also combining with gusty winds leading to elevated fire dangers. On Wednesday, fire dangers will reach Extreme levels for western parts of WA, including the Perth Metro. Fire dangers will remain elevated as the heat moves east through the latter half of this week.

Min -12.2C in Riga. Still very cold, but the extreme cold is pushed to the East to Russia. Finally weather justice.

Absolutely brutal cold in Yakutia. Coldest temperature ever recorded there so early in the season? Only in the last article, we were informed, that temperatures in the coldest parts of Siberia dropped on 7. December 2021 historically low – below levels of all-time early-season temperature records /https://mkweather.com/the-strongest-early-frosts-in-siberia-in-history-delyankir-591c//.
Now, we are bringing a shocking update – the temperature in Delyankir, Siberia, for the first time in 10 years (including January and February!) dropped below -60,0°C (-61,0°C was measured) and the all-time December record for the city, -58,8°C was overcome by unbelievable 2,2°C.
This record very probably came from the last December days, but now is only 8. December.
So severe early frosts even have never appeared in Oymyakon, where a record for the first December decade is only -60,6°C.
Therefore, we should consider these frosts such as the worst early frosts in the coldest stations in Siberia in all-time history!
