Temperature overachieved yesterday. Ended up getting up to 82F! Dewpoint in the 60's. Felt like May... Forecast high of 79F today. Front tomorrow should lower temperatures briefly. Marginal severe risk tomorrow also.
Forecast to get around 80F again later this week. May have a bigger chance for severe storms with another front Saturday.
Low yesterday was 61F - warmer than any min we had in the month of November.

Most interesting day in a while today. Started with warm winds overnight keeping temps in the upper 50s after about 4 AM. It was warm and windy in the morning, with the high reaching 64 (18 c) with very dry conditions. Dews were in the low single digits f and relative humidity dipped to 9%. Then at about 2:30 PM, and epic cold front came through dropping the temp from 61 to 43 in just 10 minutes! Temps continued to plunge and were in the 20s by 4 PM. From left to right columns are temp, RH, dew, wind, wind direction, wind gust

-27C with a -38C windchill at 10:00pm tonight! By far our coldest temperature of the season so far and our coldest temperature since mid-February. Our forecast low for tonight is -28C but we're almost there already, so I'm curious to see whether we keep dropping and go way colder than expected or if it just kind of plateaus out from here.

Frigid in Finland, most of Sweden and most of Norway, while it's mild in subtropical Riga Eastern European Riga. The Arctic blast is coming. It hasn't looked bad this morning with a low of -5.7C. But then during the day the temperature has continued to fall, the sky has cleared up from the North and now it is already below -10C. Hopefully it won't get below -15C next night. That is what winter is about: Cold fronts during the day. Embrace it, for it is a beautiful part of living at latitude.

So it only took about 8 hours to get from you to me, faster than driving.

Low -16.6C at Riga Latvian University weather station, -19C at the airport. The coldest ever in Riga for this date is from Soviet occuppation years: -19.8C on 6 December 1959. And if you think it is glorious sunshine with such temperatures by default, here is Riga this morning:

Tomorrow will be the first ice day of the season, with a high of just 25 F. desiccatedi85 : The I 95 corridor will see soothing warm rain, for one day before reality returns with 30 F and overcast.

More about the extreme cold in far northern sweden Sweden's lowest December temperature since 1986Naimakka's value is the lowest measured in Sweden in December since December 21, 1986 when Stenudden in Lapland had -45.0 °.Record cold this early in the seasonThe value of -43.8 ° is probably the lowest observed so early in the season. In the article "The Swedish cold record" in Kunskapsbanken, Sverker wrote like this"Lucia morning 1941 was very severe coldUndoubtedly, however, it was unusually cold at this time. The lowest temperature among the official weather stations was -44 ° in Långvattnet about 50 km from Malgovik. This is an absolute cold record for that station regardless of the month and the lowest temperature that has ever been measured at a weather station in Sweden as early in the season as at Lucia. "The range between Långvattnet's and Naimakka's value is so small that there are therefore strong reasons to believe that Naimakka's value of -43.8 ° is the lowest temperature observed so early in the season. At present, digitized data is available on a large scale from 1945 onwards. For the years between 1860 and up to 1944, the amount of data digitized is more sparse. With that said, Naimakka's -43.8 ° is the lowest temperature measured in Sweden so early in the season for the period 1945 and onwards.New cold record for December in NaimakkaThe station Naimakka (start year 1944) a few miles northwest of Karesuando measured on Monday shortly after lunchtime the lowest known December temperature observed there. The previous record of -41.8 ° was from 21 December 1962. It was also bitterly cold in Naimakka in December 1965 when it was -41.5 ° there and in December 1986 when it was -41.3 ° there. The station was established in 1944. However, it is worth noting that the December values from 1986, 1965 and 1962 were all measured during the second half of December.Lowest December temperature in Karesuando since 1915In Karesuando (starting year 1878), Monday's bitter temperature of a preliminary -41.9 ° is the lowest measured there in December since 1915 when the December record of -42.0 ° was measured. It was equally cold in December 1898. The only times when a temperature of at least -40.0 ° was measured in Karesuando in December are 1885, 1898, 1915, 1919, 1969 and 1986.Unusually early in the season with -40 ° in KaresuandoI note that for Karesuando it has only happened twice before that -40 ° was measured this early in the season. In connection with the record cold at the end of November 1890, the temperature in Karesuando dropped below -40 ° on 24-25 November. In December 1969, this occurred on the same date as today, namely December 6. So we have to go back 131 years in time to find an earlier date with -40 ° or lower in Karesuando.www.smhi.se/bloggar/vaderleken-2-3336/nytt-koldrekord-for-december-i-naimakka-1.178002-43.8C is also the lowest temperature in the nordics regardless of month since 2001 btw.

Tallinn is currently very snowy, 30 cm of snow on the ground. And yesterday the depth of snow there was officially 35 cm. The snow has probably thickened. The media opened a "snow blog". Interestingly, at the same time, for example, the thickness of the snow in Helsinki Kaisaniemi is 0 cm. There is less snow in my area, 16 cm. At the same time, the capital is a bit milder, the low was -16.6c, which is not a record as the coldest ever in Tallinn for this date is from 1959, the era of "Khrushchev's thaw": -17.9c. Not only is it cold, the price of electricity is now higher than ever due to cold and calm weather.
