Darwin Airport: Well, a slightly underwhelming January as far as rainfall is concerned. Despite a slow start to the month, a re invigorated monsoon delivered some good rain in the second half of the month. The total of 390.2mm was below the long term mean of 431.8mm. Both the max and min temps were slightly above the long term averages, continuing the recent trend of the last 5 years for all months. the first 11 days of Jan were fairly dry and the temps reflected this with five mins above 28c and a max of 35.1c on the 2nd. Five days exceeded 34c and only one day failed to reach 30c. Coolest max/min 29.7c/21.8c on the 12th following a wet stormy day.

January 2022 Summary, SheffieldJanuary was a bit milder than average and considerably drier than average. It seemed to be also a lot sunnier than average with clear weather occurring on quite a few days. The month saw a strong block of high pressure dominate over the area for the time from 11th til the end of the month, leading to these dry conditions. The month started with one of the mildest New Year's days on record. There were no real cold spells and the minimum temperature was not very cold. I rate this month positively compared to an average January which would be much cloudier and wetter.

January 2022 Summary Extraordinarily mild and stable, as well as the wettest on record by a great margin (Jan 1995 @ Hunters Hill was the previous wettest, at 165.4 mm). However the exceptional storm activity was much more pronounced farther west: Albury (Hume Reservoir) for instance registered a profound 317.8 mm this month (as well as a daily rainfall of 95.4 mm on the 15th), which thoroughly shatters its previous Jan record of just 212.6 mm—with records at this site spanning back to 1922. Anomalies @ Hunters Hill (1993–2021)• Mean Maximum: 25.1 °C (–1.1 °C) • Mean Minimum: 15.3 °C (+0.8 °C) • Precipitation: 216.2 mm (318.41%)

Not much to write home about this January (a contrast to last year's), which was largely dry with high pressure dominating the latter half of the month, though early in the morning of January 12th I observed rain mixed with snow fall with 36-37°F temps as a cold-core low moved overhead at a favorable time of the day. After 2 years of predominantly colder and cloudier conditions (relative to average), we got our warmest month on record. The average min is definitely the warmest on record, and the average max is not far off. This month recorded 20 30C+ days, which is also a record. The month was also quite humid, and most remarkably it was stable warmth, which I'm sure everyone knows is rare down here let alone for most of January! Definitely one to remember.

Gonna drink some beer gonna get high, Gonna drink some beeeeer gonna get haaaaaaiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigggghhhhhhhAbove average, a rare hot and humid stretch, a destructive thunderstorm, and a fucking assload of lightning. Elsewhere, the month saw floods in outback SA, towns, roads and rail were cut off, record rainfall in many places in outback SA, the Eyre Penisula, and elsewhere. Parts of the main Adelaide-Darwin highway and rail were flooded or washed away, leaving some outback towns cut off. Trucks were turned around and had to take a 3000km detour through Queensland to get to Darwin, while military cargo aircraft were called in to bring supplies to outback SA towns such as Coober Pedy. Mildura in NW Vic had a Jan record of 80mm rain in one day, during an overnight storm which generated 193,000 lightning strikes within a 200km radius - this occured on Jan 26. I was high out on the deck watching the flashes towards that direction. Meanwhile here, there was barely any rain. This is by far, by fucking far, the best month of the 2020's.

January in Central MN was quite good, well below normal and above average snowfall, -5.1 F (-2.8 C) anomaly at St. Cloud Regional Airport, and -7.3 F (-4.1 C) anomaly at Rice, MN (the station that is most representative for my area). It was the coldest January since 2014, and 3rd coldest since 2000. The month was highly variable, and had one of the biggest diurnal ranges of all time with a massive 57 F (31.7 C) diurnal on the 26th (34/-23 F (1.1 C / -30.6 C)). I will be including the summaries for both. St. Cloud Regional Airport: Average High: 18.7 F (-7.4 C) (-2.2 F / -1.2 C) Mean: 6.7 F (-14.1 C) (-5.1 F / -2.8 C) Average Low: -5.1 F (-20.6 C) (-8.0 F / -4.4 C) Precipitation: 0.58" (14.7 mm) -13.4% anomaly (0.67" / 17.0 mm average) Snowfall: 10.8" (27.4 cm) +22.7% anomaly (8.8" / 22 cm average) Highest High: 42 F (5.6 C) on January 18 Highest Low: 22 F (-5.6 C) on January 13 Lowest High: -7 F (-21.7 C) on January 1 Lowest Low: -28 F (-33.3 C) on January 7 Highs at or above 41 F (5.0 C): 1 Highs at or above 32 F (0.0 C): 8 Highs at or above 23 F (-5.0 C): 14 Highs at or below 14 F (-10.0 C): 11 Highs at or below 5 F (-15.0 C): 7 Highs at or below 0 F (-17.8 C): 3 Highs at or below -4 F (-20.0 C): 1 Lows at or below 5 F (-15.0 C): 22 Lows at or below 0 F (-17.8 C): 20 Lows at or below -4 F (-20.0 C): 16 Lows at or below -13 F (-25.0 C): 11 Lows at or below -22 F (-30.0 C): 3

Notes for Rice: It seems the observation times are different from St. Cloud, hence some of the lows and highs look way off (real low/high occurred the previous day). Real average low is likely around -9 or -10 F rather than nearly -11 F, real average high is likely around 14 F or 14.5 F rather than higher than 15 F. Snowfall is likely not very accurate either, as Rice doesn't even have average snowfall data ---- we definitely got more than the airport. Rice: Average High: 15.4 F (-9.2 C) (-4.1 F / -2.3 C) Mean: 2.3 F (-16.5 C) (-7.3 F / -4.1 C) Average Low: -10.7 F (-23.7 C) (-10.5 F / -5.8 C) Precipitation: 0.50" (12.7 mm) -31.5% anomaly (0.73" / 18.5 mm average) Snowfall: 8.3" (21.1 cm) Highest High: 41 F (5.0 C) on January 19 Highest Low: 21 F (-6.1 C) on January 13 Lowest High: -10 F (-23.3 C) on January 2 Lowest Low: -31 F (-35.0 C) on January 7, 8 Highs at or above 41 F (5.0 C): 1 Highs at or above 32 F (0.0 C): 5 Highs at or above 23 F (-5.0 C): 12 Highs at or below 14 F (-10.0 C): 14 Highs at or below 5 F (-15.0 C): 9 Highs at or below 0 F (-17.8 C): 5 Highs at or below -4 F (-20.0 C): 2 Lows at or below 5 F (-15.0 C): 25 Lows at or below 0 F (-17.8 C): 23 Lows at or below -4 F (-20.0 C): 23 Lows at or below -13 F (-25.0 C): 17 Lows at or below -22 F (-30.0 C): 8 Lows at or below -31 F (-35.0 C): 2

Not a bad month. Almost all the snow fell within the first week which was annoying but not as annoying as the mid-month mild spell with 8 straight days of +0C highs. Snow pack held on nicely at least. Very snowy and changeable month in Charlottetown:
