It was quite a cold month at around 3F below normal, the coldest here in fact since January 2018. Precipitation was almost bang-on average at 101% of normal, and this combined with the colder than normal conditions produced a snowier than normal month, with 11" of snow falling on just the storm on the 28th-29th alone. Thankfully, due to some rainy thaws, snow cover didn't stick around for too long, being recorded on just 6 days. Also, the storm on the 17th was notable, as it was the wettest day of the month (1.56" of precipitation, all in the form of rain) and severe thunderstorm warnings were issued, despite temps being in the 40s at the time! Don't remember the last time we had January thunderstorms, that was the highlight of the month. Edit: climobox title should read 2022, not 2021. I maded a typo, this is indeed 2022 data.

January was cool (-3.5F) and much drier than normal (26% of normal). Except for 3 mild days that reached the 40's mid-month it was consistently cool. All the precipitation fell in two groups, the 1st-2nd and the 22nd-23rd-24th. In between, 19 consecutive days with 0 or trace. 10 of those 19 saw a trace of precip (11 total ended with a trace). Just a few flakes or drizzle.
Overall - not a good winter month since too many storms missed north or south. Could be worse, though. There was some brief light rain and freezing drizzle but no rainy soggy days. Basically all the accumulating precipitation was light powdery snow which I like a lot better than rain this time of year.
Speaking of worse, José/Yman would be complaining all month. Appleton averaged 21.4/4.5F (-5.9/-15.2C) with just 0.28"/7mm precip and 5.3"/13.5cm snowfall. Only two days over 0.04"/1mm. He hates cold dry weather and that's all they got.

On the milder side and dryer side. New Year's Day was the mildest on record.

January 2022 was very dry, with slightly below-normal temperatures. The highs were slightly above normal, but the lows were much below normal. The second half of January was quite variable, with large swings in temperature from day to day. There was one day with snow flurries and another with a dusting, but nothing too impressive.
