A definite 'pass' mark for the Wet Season month of February in my suburb of Leanyer, however the Darwin Airport site, only 4.9klm fom me, and most of the City sites recorded slightly below average rainfall for February. The month was characterised by a good cool and wet start, then mid month we had a dry and hotter than average spell during a classic 'monsoonal break' period. This included a +35c max temp, quite a rare occurrance during February. The last week of Feb, we had 4 consecutive days below 30c and full overcast conditions and consistant soaking rain. The Airport came in at 0.2c above the mean max temp and -0.4c below the mean min temp. The west north western coastal sites seem to have done well in Feb re rainfall....most sites east of Darwin are well below average. Hoping March and April continue the slightly above average rainfall in my suburb.   |

February 2022 Summary Cool, sunny, and dry with some airmass variation—a definite improvement over Jan IMO. Actually felt like a Southern NSW summer for once this year, rather than a stable subtropical shit heap from up north. The first year in a while wherein Feb ended up a better summer month than Jan. February 2022 Summary, Sheffield
February 2022 was the third wettest on record at the location. The month was dominated by a succession of, at times, powerful cyclonic systems, resulting in rainfall at 293% of the long-term average. A particularly strong storm on 18th resulted in wind gusts well over 60mph and as high as 80mph locally. This storm, and a subsequent storm on 20th, resulted in exceptional rainfall totals; the latter resulted in two inches of rain during the one day, causing serious local flooding on top of already accumulated rainfall. Yet more rainfall and showers followed. There was a general lack of cold weather during the month, with one air frost only matching that of February 2020 (the second wettest on record), and that air frost was only 0.1°C colder than that of February 2020. The average temperature was 1.8°C above average, and snow only fell twice during the entire month despite the wet conditions.

Been a sunny, high pressure-dominated month, with well-above average highs prevailing through the month like the past three Februarys. Whilst parts of the country were going underwater, we just scraped over 2mm. This was Essendon's 5th driest February on record, spanning back until 1930.

February ended up being a few degrees below average, making this the first winter since 2010-11 where all three months were below average, and being nearly identical to January this year. This was on track to being the first winter since 2013-14 where January was the mildest month of the winter, but the last few days were just warm enough for February to end up 0.1C warmer, so we just missed the mark there. February was milder and wetter than normal. Very stable month, and presumably quite cloudy. For the first time since 2012 December was the coldest winter month.

While a sizeable portion of eastern Australia experienced some of the highest February rainfall totals on record, we recorded our 4th driest February since records began in 1941. Temperatures were relatively stable and close to average, and there were quite a few days of high humidity. The lack of precipitation and thunderstorms was a huge letdown, especially after an exciting storm-rich January.
