LOL a real climate battle thread indeed! Melbourne does seem to be overall milder, but Raleigh isn't too bad, especially comparing its summer lows to Myrtle Beach.

I like Melbourne's summer avgs better but the extended heatwaves + cool spells seem irritating to deal with (don't mind some hotter and cooler days, but not like Melbourne gets), and prefer Raleigh's winters overall for the chance of snow. Think I'll go with Raleigh as I can handle most summer days there (would prefer Melbourne over somewhere like Dallas which is just too hot for me tho and too prone to winter heatwaves). Melbourne doesn't get extended heatwaves.

Raleighβs better in every way but average summer temperatures. More thunderstorms, colder winters, far more variable in the seasons where I care about variability, actually gets snow, less extremely hot days, etc

Definitely Raleigh. More seasonality.

Definitely Raleigh. More seasonality. Melbourne has plenty of seasonality, in fact all four of them in a 24 hour period is the long standing joke amongst Aussie weather aficionados. A bit of an exaggeration, mostly in 48 hours, not 24.....

The real Melbourne (I just replaced the wikibox recently) is 14.95 Β°C by annual mean, or 15.0 Β°C rounded. Significantly cooler than Raleigh. But yeah, you can keep the Melbourne version in the OP if you want because the only point of this thread apparently was that both climates were 16.2 Β°Cβ¦this is what happens when you compare minimal UHI with extreme UHI stations. So I'm just pointing this out for the record and future reference ππ»

Raleigh
I'll put up with the cooler winters, considering the summers are that much better.

It's right next to the coldest ocean in the world, you know.

It sucks, but at least that time of year days are long and sun angles high that it doesn't last once the sun rises

Melbourne for the much better winters. Citrus and CIDP grow easily in Melbourne but not Raleigh without protection.

Raleigh: despite worse temps, it is wetter and sunnier, with more t-storms

Raleigh I guess. It's a bit on the hot and humid side in summer but it has more interesting winters and more t-storms.
