Rabbit Flat, located in one of the remotest regions of the Tanami Desert, a spec of flyshit on a map that was once a thriving metropolis of 4 ( the population doubled from 2 to 4 with the wife of the owner giving birth to twins ).
The place is closed now, although the BOM still has an AWS on the site of the former Roadhouse. I remember the cantankerous old bastard who ran the place ( about 45klms from the Tanami/Granites Gold Mines....he wouldn't serve us miners full strength beer, said we played up too much on it...mmmm fair observation haha )
Also fair to say the region is 'challenging' climatically with max temps well into the 40c's for upwards of 6 months of the year. Winter winds have a distinct 'chill' to them and frosty nights, although not common, happen most years. Add in a cyclonic low/monsoonal system in the Kimberley of WA or the Victoria River District of the NT, and flooding rains can close the Tanami Road for weeks at a time. The place gets a few decent storms in the wet season too.
