Rate this quintessential Southern Hemisphere sub-tropical climate.
Bellingen, located a 30*S in North Eastern NSW and some 25klm inland from the coast at the foot of the Great Dividing Range. the higher peaks of the Ranges rise over 1500m ( 5.000') and see some winter snowfalls. The lee side of the Ranges are the wettest sites in NSW, with some regions recording 2000mm ( 80")per annum.
The town itself is a former logging village that has transformed itself into a hidden getaway from the heavily populated central coasts ( Newcastle-Sydney-Wollongong ).
The Waterfall Way between Armidale and Coffs Harbour is right up there amongst the prettiest drives in Australia.
30*S really is the sweet spot for the AU version of 'sub-tropicallity', which is far milder than the commonly accepted versions in the US, and of course doesn't suffer from winter extreme cold, although occaisionly there are periods of extreme heat from the inland exported to the coastal regions.
Some climate data....a bit outdated as the Post Office site closed in 2002. The Wikibox claims BOM date from the Bellingen RSL, but there is no such place on the BOM Website... the recorded data seems to be from the Post Office site.
Some further reading on the town and things to see and do in the district. Oh, and can coconuts, bananas and mangos grow there ? Honestly don't know, although all 3 of those plants grow OK over on the coast at Coffs Harbour.
