Alice Springs is located just below the Tropic of Capricorn in Central Australia at an altitude just under 600m asl. Sited deep in a valley in the MacDonnell ranges, the Town and Airport are fairly frost prone and see a few hard freezes most winters. The daytime maxes warm up pretty quick normally, thus reducing cold damage to vegetation. Have a look at the 1976 winter and see what you think.... ( Notes/- Top Enders despise Alice Springs winters...1500klm south of Darwin might as well be 5000klm south in our eyes...lol ) 1976 max temps May-Sept. !976 min temps May-Sept. 1976 winter rainfall May-Sept. Alice Springs Wikibox And as an aside ( and for reference ) the winter of 2012 had some chilly mins as well !

B-
Crispy, if a bit too freezing at nights. If this happened now, climate change alarmists will be orgasming. Nice to see that weather anomalies has always occurred, but they make it seem like it's a recent 21st century thing.

Even despite all the subfreezing nights and the lack of rain, I'll still give this a B given that it's a LOT warmer than the subarctic horrors I put up with every winter for months on end.

B, it's much better than winters here, but still I'd like to see a lot of winter rainfall, this is bone dry.

D-
The winter lows aren't bad but could be cooler. The highs are way too warm for winter, and feel more spring or fall-like. Only two days failed to hit 15ยฐC it looks like; terrible for winter. It's also way too dry. 3.4 mm of precip in five months is awful.

Ahhh the vagaries of Central Australian rainfall...the totals for the first 3 months of 1976 were 465.7mm and then only 86mm for the rest of the year. !

Winter nights are colder than I like, but the warm, sunny days prevents me from ranking it any lower than a D, even with the lack of any rain.

C. Too cold nights, but highs are not bad. Too dry, but likely really sunny.
