Officially 100 F (37.8 C) here! First time since June 7, 2011 so 11 years since the last occurrence! Also, Duluth Sky Harbor Airport is at 95 F (35 C) right now, at this time yesterday it was only 52 F (11.1 C). w1.weather.gov/data/obhistory/KDYT.htmlCongrats! Just to your north, looks like Emerson and Winnipeg were the hotspots in Manitoba yesterday, peaking at 38.0c(100.4f) and 37.4c(99.3f) respectively. Also some 100F temps just outside Winnipeg on the Manitoba Government weather stations. While those are not part of the environment Canada network, they are high accuracy stations.

23/06 25.5c/8.3c in the nearest station, dry. Today in Estonia, a national holiday - Victory Day which is dedicated to the anniversary of the 1918-20 war victory was celebrated. Traditional parade of the Defense League, consisting of volunteers, took place. news.err.ee/1608638260/gallery-estonia-s-victory-day-parade-takes-place-in-kuressaare#lg=1&slide=0I feel that such expressions of official patriotism, to which my personal attitude if to be honest has been pretty indifferent so far, may have taken on maybe a little special meaning in this year. The reasons for this are not that difficult to guess, apparently.

Latvia is celebrating Jāņi or Midsummer/ St. John's day today and tomorrow. There is a saying that it rains like on St. John's day when it rains a lot. However, this year it is sunny and dry. Low 13.7C and high 25.2C in Riga.
Finland is celebrating juhannus or Midsummer today and tomorrow. Last year the highs were 26.4C and 25.9C. Warmest in Turku in recent memory has been Midsummer 1973, when the highs were 30.3C and 29.4C. Coldest in 2014 when the highs were a shocking 12.3C and 14.0C.
Happy Midsummer to everyone, though it's just a normal weekend for most of you!

🖕🏿Mörön🖕🏿 Eh, I'd rather get all those positive anomalies out of the way in summer. Bring on the deep blues, greens, and purples for winter. Last night was one of the most insane nights I've ever experienced in terms of storms. Kept getting hit with regenerating strong thunderstorm after another, each storm had extremely heavy rain, golf-ball (or bigger) sized hail, 50-70 mph winds, and endless lightning. Between 9 PM and 7 AM there was not a single break in lightning/thunder, and only brief breaks in rain. The airport reported 3.81" (96.7 mm) of rain last night w1.weather.gov/data/obhistory/KSTC.html but the two closest PWS' to me reported 6.98" (177.3 mm) and 7.36" (186.9 mm) of rain respectively! www.wunderground.com/dashboard/pws/KMNSARTE31www.wunderground.com/dashboard/pws/KMNSARTE14/graph/2022-06-24/2022-06-24/dailyWild stuff, and tonight has another chance at being similar, we're at a level 2 (slight) risk of severe thunderstorms, the same as last night. Here at noon, it's 83 F (28.3 C) with a 65 F (18.3 C) dew point, supposed to head up to 91 F (32.8 C) today. Much cooler this weekend, tomorrow has 79/55 F (26.1/12.8 C) forecast and Sunday 73/52 F (22.8/11.1 C).

And yeah, provided you don't get a death ridge with very little precip, higher than normal temps would be good for more storms for your area.

How Low Can Northern Territory Temps Go ? ( source: Weatherzone ) A top temperature of just 29°C is in the forecast for Darwin next Tuesday. If the forecast pans out as predicted, it would be just the third sub-30 degree day of the year in the NT capital. So how often does that happen? And how cold can it get in Darwin itself, and elsewhere in the Northern Territory? Let's deal with Darwin first The interesting thing about Darwin's two sub-30 degree days so far this year is that one of them occurred on January 12. That was because TC Tiffany made landfall over the eastern Top End, with ample cloud coverage over the whole region. The timing of the 27 mm of rain that Darwin received that day would have played a part too. Temps dropped to the low 20s around 6am, followed by persistent precipitation till around 1pm that slowed the mercury's rise until it peaked around 5 pm. The other Darwin day this year that fell just short of 30°C was earlier this month, which is not unusual in June, because: June and July are the two coldest months of the year in Darwin (due mostly to slightly shorter daylight hours providing less time for heating), with average mins of 20°C and 19.3°C respectively, and average maximums of 30.7°C in both months. But Darwin can get a lot colder than the temps we've already mentioned. Its coldest maximum temp on record was 21.1°C on July 14, 1968, while the coldest December-to-February max on record was 24.0°C on Dec 17, 1954. For low max temps in the wet season in Darwin, you'd normally expect tropical low or tropical cyclone activity. For low max temps in the dry season, you'd expect some unseasonable cloud to move over the city, as happened on May 22, 2020, when a broad area of jetstream cloud blotted out the sun, pinning temps down in the mid 20s. So now you know how and when temperatures can occasionally stay low enough in the Top End for locals to require a light cardigan! For the record, the coldest temps ever recorded in the Northern Territory are: Maximum 5.9°C, Yulara Aero, July 11, 1997 Minimum -7.5°C, Alice Springs Airport, July 17, 1976

Got even hotter than expected yesterday. Temp got up to 104F at 5 PM! Dewpoint was down to 63F at that time. We reached 104F in June of 2009 (on the 28th).
High of 102F forecast this afternoon. Hopefully t-storms arrive tomorrow and we get plentiful rainfall next week. Forecast highs starting Monday are more typical low 90's.
