Inspired by a shoutbox discussion regarding just that, I'm going to make a thread for it. What are your most common wind directions and mean wind speeds in your locale? Mean wind speeds by hour by month @ KEWN:
And frequency of wind directions by season. WinterSpringSummerFallAnnual [got it from here, as it also includes % of calm wind speeds; you can have a look by month, too. Least calm month is April at 12.7%, and the greatest frequency of calm wind events (<2 mph) is in October, at 24.8%]: For the seasonal wind roses, I used this: mesonet.agron.iastate.edu/plotting/auto/?_wait=no&q=16

Wind speed by month. This is using Loveland airport which is farther out on the plains so probably a bit windier. The CSU station under reports wind though and doesn’t have wind averages so I think these values are pretty in line with what I experience.
January: 6.3 mph February: 7.2 mph March: 8.1 mph April: 9.1 mph May: 7.8 mph June: 7.3 mph July: 7.0 mph August: 6.7 mph Sept: 6.5 mph October: 6.7 mph Nov: 6.5 mph Dec: 6.5 mph
Confirms what I’ve experienced here. Calmer season August-January with a wind attack in spring.
Here’s 2023:
January: 5.5 mph February: 8.1 mph March: 8.6 mph April: 9.0 mph
Calm January which makes sense as it was very stable. Windy February and March, no wonder the wind has been annoying me, longer windy season than normal.

When temp is above 80F: During thunderstorm events: Wind direction when temp is below 80F (seems right):

Prevailing winds in London are usually SSW to SW for most of the year. Easterlies are more common in spring.

Few things of note:
- April is the windiest month on average, August is the least windy, neither of which is any surprise.
- There's a secondary slight "windy season" in November.
- Very marked increase in E/NE wind frequency in April and May. Seems like E/NE winds are quite uncommon the rest of the year which is interesting.
