Before the Interstate Highway system, there was Route 66. Stretching from Chicago to Santa Monica, California, this road served as a primary route for people migrating west. Route 66 is iconic in popular culture, with many books, movies, and songs referencing the highway. Route 66 was 2,448 miles (3,940 km) long. A highway that long is bound to span many different kinds of climates. Which one do you think is the best? Start
Chicago, Illinois:
Springfield, Illinois:
St. Louis, Missouri:
Joplin, Missouri:
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma:
Amarillo, Texas:
Santa Fe, New Mexico:
Albuquerque, New Mexico:
Gallup, New Mexico:
Holbrook, Arizona:
Flagstaff, Arizona:
Kingman, Arizona:
Needles, California:
Barstow, California:
San Bernardino, California:
Los Angeles, California:
Santa Monica, California:

Oklahoma CityProbably has the best combination of stuff I like. San Bernardino probably has the best temperature pattern but is too arid for too long in summer. 2nd place overall: Needles, CA (no, I'm kidding)

Didn't have to look at the first 15 cities. Los Angeles it is. San Bernardino is not that bad and Santa Monica is pretty good.

San Bernardino. OK City is much more interesting but I need the mild winters of CA.

San Bernardino for being the wettest of the bunch with Mediterranean rainfall patterns, though it still is semiarid.

Chicago. Springfield and St. Louis have better temperatures, but not enough snowfall.
Fun fact: you can still drive on most of Route 66 in Oklahoma, where it has been downgraded to a state highway. The same is true for other states as well I believe.
