September is a transitional month across the Northern Territory. In the deep north and Top End, this means a change is imminent between the cooler dry season 'winter' and the pre wet season 'build up' of isolated storms and increased humididy. The southern parts of the NT often swing wildly between winter like and summer like conditions as the northern heat low gains strength over the northern half of the Continent. DARWIN: Same as Sept 2021. this Sept has delivered record breaking heat across large swathes of the Top End, with up to a dozen locations breaking all time max and min heat records for the month of September. Typical of a La Nina weather pattern in northan Australia. Both the towns of Katherine and Jabiru 300klm south and east of Darwin respectively have set new daily and monthly mean max temp records for September. Katherine RAAF Base:   Jabiru:   Darwin's min average of 24.8c was 1.8c above the monthly mean. Darwin's max average of 33.8c was well above the monthly mean of 32.7c an anomaly of +1.1c There were only 4 min temps below the long term monthly mean average of 23.0c. and a new all time Sept min temp of 27.4c was recorded on the 25th. 6 days exceed 35c at the Airport, including 36c today, the last day of September. Rainfall at the Airport was only 12.6mm, below the long term average of 16.6mm, although it should be noted that the median Sept rainfall at the Airport is only 6.4mm. A storm outbreak on the 28th delivered totals between 50mm and 100mm to some Darwin northern suburbs, whereas the Airport to the south only recorded 9.6mm Highest max temp - 37.4c on the 8th Lowest max temp - 32.0c on the 28th Highest min temp - 27.4c on the 25th Lowest min temp - 22.4c on the 8th   ALICE SPRINGS: Central Australia commenced the month of September with some chilly winter like max and min temps, but as is usual for a transitional month, managed to swing between the seasons with some hotter days in the mid 30c's later in the month. 22.6mm of rain fell over 8 days, well above the average Sept total of 8.6mm. September is often a dry month in Central Australia, the median at Alice Springs Airport is only 1.9mm Highest max temp = 35.7c on the 20th Lowest max temp = 13.5c on the 1st Highest min temp = 21.8c on the 20th Lowest min temp = 2.4c on the 5th   |

September 2022 Summary Sheffield
September's temperature and rainfall were close to average. The first 9 days were quite mild and humid with a cutoff low to the west, causing some instability with showers and thunderstorms. The middle of the month got a lot colder with a cold high pressure then some northerly winds. The last few days were cold and unsettled. The avg. max and abs. max were the lowest since September 2019.

September was absolutely fantastic, well above average through most of the month with only two minor freezes, as well as setting a new all-time monthly heat record (and the second-highest temperature of the year). Definitely extended our season of decent weather this year and helped to make up for the horse's ass that was April. Average high: 23.4C (normal: 18.3C) Average low: 6.6C (normal: 4.5C) Mean temperature: 15.0C (normal: 11.4C) Warmest high: 35.7C (Sept 4th - new monthly record!) September 2022 Summary Autumn has arrived. Cooler than normal September, although still warmer than a 81-2010 average September. Started off warm and a bit wet, transitioned to a more seasonal middle of the month, and a big drop towards the end with many days well below average and frosty lows.   |

 0.7F warmer than normal (highs above normal & lows below normal). 0.49" drier than normal. Much of the rainfall came the first 7 days of the month. Mostly sunny and dry mid to late month. Had a bit of a heatwave the 3rd week of the month then turned fall-like to end the month. Lowest max: 77F Highest min: 75F Days 90F or above: 17 Days with thunder: 4  |

It was also wetter than average, with 130% of normal precip, but 15.75 mm of it fell in one day (the 11th)

A stable, cloudy and drizzly month. Precipitation was near average, but there were more precipitation days than usual. Highs were significantly below average, and the highest temperature recorded this month (20.4°C) was the coolest September monthly high since 2010 and the 5th coolest on record. There were a couple of Spring thunderstorms accompanied by hail but otherwise it was a relatively uneventful month.

September here came in bang on average, with highs a bit warmer & low a bit cooler than the LTA. Rainfall came in well above average, with the bulk falling in some torrential downpours during the thunderstorms at the start of the month, though the departure from average is skewed as my location is wetter than Thorney Island anyway being inland on the edge of the South Downs. September could be divided into 2/3 and 1/3 categories. First 2/3, shit, boring, stupid, just an extension of summer.  Last 1/3, very nice, real fall-like weather.  Overall: Meh. Mostly shit, but a pleasant surprise at the end of the month getting our first freeze. |
