They are subarctic, even at sea level, by köppen at least. They only have 3 months with means of 50F+, below the required 4 to avoid subarcticity. The Koppen threshold is actually 3 or less. Not more than 3. You're reading your sources wrong.

Not more than 3. You're reading your sources wrong. The point I was making stands. Those SE Alaska locales I mentioned have only 3 months with means of 50F+ means. This fits into the "3 or less" that you mention to retain subarcticity.

Oh well, then Koppen's 'subarctic' is just as flawed as his 'subtropical' category. Those are clearly temperate biomes, it's so obvious. Climates with mild winters like those SE Alaskan ones should never be called subarctic. Unless they have VERY cool summers, like the Subantarctic islands.
