In the Auckland vs. Christchurch battle, there was discussion on how the results would change if Nelson replaced Christchurch. Would 400 extra sun hours tip the scale in Nelson's favour? Auckland Nelson The Wiki climate table doesn't have records but a few other sites put the record high and low as approximately 33c and -4c.

Can I abstain? Both climates suck!

Yeah Nelson is still better than Auckland.
Definitely prefer Christchurch to Nelson though.

Auckland for the milder winters.

Sunshine alone is enough to pick Nelson.

These climates are pretty similar, I'd be fine choosing either one. I will pick Auckland because it has more winter rain, so I can delude myself into thinking that it has a Mediterranean climate.

Both are good citrus/ski climates.

Fucken sheep shagging Kiwis ! Not only do they immigrate across the ditch to AU like a Mongol Horde on the rampage, now the bastards are taking over the climate battles section of WWF.....its not enough that they continually win the Bledisloe Cup, now we're having their insipid poor excuses for 'climate' foisted upon us !

Nelson, the sun makes zero difference though

Nelson is a better option both because of the colder temperatures and the sunshine. The sunshine makes a moderate difference here since anything above 2000 hours of sun is decent.
Sadly, the town where I live only gets 1701 hours of sun per year. Sucks living here, but at least we have one of best climates my country has to offer.

Nelson would feel more like a Mediterranean climate as it's much sunnier and drier especially in summer though it is still very much an oceanic temperate climate. Auckland according to NIWA is humid subtropical

Lol I ain't Kiwi mate, just an Aussie who's giving our neighbours across the ditch a bit too much love and attention Anyway, they're close but I'll go with Nelson for being sunnier and drier.

They're both nice but I'll go with Auckland for being cloudier and wetter.

Nelson. My main gripe with Auckland is the winter rainfall peak. As far as temps, I think the difference is pretty marginal - mainly just milder nights in Auckland (a consequence of cloudier skies as much as lower latitude). Looking at rain days and sunshine hours, Nelson seems the more attractive option, especially in winter.

Auckland for being warmer year round. Warmth trumps sunshine for me.
