Two climates that don't have the best reputation here - similar in many ways, but with some key differences. Try to resist your urge to abstain! Portland doesn't have sunshine data, but I estimate it's somewhere around 2200-2300 hours. Portland Since the Wikipedia data is based on the old site, here's the current station data. San Francisco

Portland Victoria is about as bad as it gets along southern coastal Australia.... the absolute pits climatically actually with extreme changeable conditions all year round....well, no thats not entirely true. It's shithously changeable in spring, summer and autumn, and just simply shithouse in winter. San Francisco simply couldn't be more shithouse....could it ? Some more Portland info to convince y'all of the shittyness....

I wanted to choose SF for being drier, but the winters of San FranSHITsco are fucken gay. So I picked Portland instead.

Portland. Warmer, less laggy, and the variability keeps things exciting.

These stats are actually from the "good" part of the city. Over by the coast it's a lot more shithouse, foggy all summer, rarely gets above 70F. It's not my cup of tea, but some people like it.

Easily SF for its high sunshine ours (indeed, the US sunshine hours are overstated by 200 hrs, so SF will have 2800 hrs of sun, which is very sufficient)

Portland for having some summer rain and being more changeable (even if it can get crazy at times)

Portland despite it still being a garbage boring climate with cool crummers and pathetic winters.

For all who think Portland VIC is 'better' than San Francisco.... could you handle this sorta changeability in spring, summer and autumn ?

Unpopular opinion: I think they’re both good! San Francisco is comfortable, while Portland is ‘exciting’.

Portland for being less laggy and having warmer summer days, as well as cooler winter days, and warmer springs with good heatwave potential.

Now this can be exciting and fun variability for some but to me this will be fricking annoying! Airconditioner one day and the desire for a fan heater the next. Ew.

That’s what makes it better. That “changeability” isn’t that impressive either. 43 to 17 is really impressive I've experienced 43 to 17 before and I gotta say it was a strange sensation, even though I'm accustomed to wild temp swings in summer. I don't know how to describe it exactly, but it was quite disorienting and gave me 'hangover' vibes. However, the changeability usually doesn't bother me too much, as long as it's not a 26 degree daily drop lol. Having never experienced properly stable summers before (though the past summer was relatively stable), this is just a normal part of life.

^^I had a 'changeable' day just now.. 35c at noon, then a storm blew in and dropped the temp to 25c...was like someone turned on one of Benny's giant AC's.... back up to 30c now. The biggest drop I've experienced ( over 2 days ) was 44c up at Tocumwal on the Murray River, next day we drove down to Melbourne and I took my kids on Puffing Billy steam train in the Dandenongs. Was 38c at Bonnie Doon, then 30klm later south of the Ranges is a cold 18c and raining. Then the next day staying with friends at Phillip Island the temp maxed out at 14.5c in the teeth of a Bass Strait gale ! that was tough on a Darwin family I can tell you !! And yes, it is somewhat disorientating haha. Another time I flew to Tasmania from the WA Pilbara and walked the Cradle Mountain Track in cold drizzly 8c temps....after literally weeks of +43c temps at work. Then flew home to a hot humid Darwin wet season week before back to the dry desolate Pilbara heat.... Now that really does take some getting used to, haha Oh, just remembered a coupla years ago I drove from Darwin to Melbourne ( takes 3 days ) so right through the Territory and South Australian Outback its 40c, then I get to Port Augusta just before dark, a cold frontal change has swept through and the temp is on 15c ! In February !. I was meeting up with some friends in their campervan for a few beers, and sitting around in the cold had me shivering and I had to wrap myself in a beach towell to keep warm....lol So yeah, fuck the changeability....haha
