It's fair to say that both can get "spicy" with heat bouts (particularly SF), but they are still pretty boring overall. Whilst Launceston has warmer summers, San Francisco has much higher sunshine hours and stronger sun, despite its very mild summers. Winters are slightly cooler in Launceston at nights, in addition to being cloudier. For the snow lovers here, Launceston gets some snow, but like every 5 years or so (2015 and 2020 had a few notable snowy days).

Launceston for having more variability. One of the best Tasmanian climates.

Launceston is better.
Those SF sunshine hours are probably not legit either.

Launnie has one of the better Tassie climates....I've only been there in summer ( late Dec ) but it was reasonably warm and sunny, except for the day I walked around Cradle Mountain in drizzling rain and 8.5c max temp....that was shithouse!! For the stats and data nerds, Launceston has records dating back to 1884.

Launceston for having warmer summers and lacking SF's crummer fog.

Launceston for having warmer summers and lacking SF's crummer fog. In all fairness, I would believe that Launceston, much like Melbourne, will also be prone to cool summer drizzle here and there.

Launceston is better. Those SF sunshine hours are probably not legit either. Aren't the US sunshine hours overstated by 200 hours? So 2800-ish will be an accurate figure.

Launceston
Actually attempts to have something resembling summer warmth, and doesn't have an annoyingly arid season.
