Transcontinental roadtrip in 1962. Highway 1 wasn't sealed accross the Nullarbor Plain until the mid 1970's, so one imagines it must have been quite a journey 60 years ago ! Some terrific old photos to accompany the climate data. SYDNEY, NSW HAY, NSW The Hay Plains in 1962....quintessentialy Australian photo ! EUSTON, NSW Small border town on the Murray River, the fruit fly quarrantine checkpoint in 1962. Can't find reliable climate data, so using Mildura ( an hour west ) CEDUNA/PENOLA, SA Look at the warning sign in Ceduna !! Penola, west of Ceduna. NULLARBOR, SA Australia's Highway 1 in 1962 ! EUCLA, WA Back on the tar seal at Eucla, still 900 miles to Perth. PERTH, WA Perth skyline mid 1960's

Sydney. Mildura and Hay are too hot in summer and still donโt get any snow, the other places are too dry and stormless

Sydney. Mildura and Hay are too hot in summer and still donโt get any snow, the other places are too dry and stormless Places that might see some snowfalls every year generally around 800m asl in south eastern AU.....when I say might see some snow, this doesnt mean settled snow for days on end....the frontal nature of winter systems means the climate is very changeable with rapid thawing/melting. Places like Ballarat between 400m-500m in southern Victoria might see a few flurries every winter, but settled snow is not that common.

Sydney. Drier winters than Perth without being too dry year-round. The others have ok temps but too dry and the Southern Ocean-moderated bipolar summers would be a pain.

I'll take Perth for now. Those "in between" are all too dry for my liking (a plant hobbyist), despite their terrific sunshine hours.
I am amazed that a relatively wet Perth is sunnier than these semi-arid places. Something is not right. But I don't know...
