I did Moscow, now it's time to do Saint Petersburg. While both Moscows were subarctic hellholes, the St. Petersburgs have very different climates.
Saint Petersburg
Saint Petersburg was founded in 1703 by Peter the Great. Its name comes from German, and honors Saint Peter. From 1914-1924 it was known as Petrograd, and then it was known as Leningrad until the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991.
St. Petersburg
Founded in 1888, named after the Russian Saint Petersburg. Its name has a "St." instead of spelling out the word "saint".
