I don't think my "dream climate" really exists anywhere, or is even possible, in any single location. Ideally, I'd move around to experience the conditions I want at the time of year I want. I'd prefer something like the following:
9 months (early February through late October) - I want something like Aruba. Warm, DRY, and with a very warm ocean (preferably over 30C ocean temperatures) to swim in and enjoy. (But obviously I wouldn't want this without air conditioning.)
1 month of fall - From just before Halloween to Thanksgiving. I want the full fall experience. Beautiful fall foliage, Halloween stuff, football, Thanksgiving, etc.
2 months of winter. December & January. I want plenty of snow. I want snow on the ground the entire 2 months. ESPECIALLY for Christmas. The mountains would be good. A place go to hiking in the snow would be a necessity.
Then come February, transport me back to Aruba, or better yet a fictional climate quite like it.

I'd probably go with 1959, 1989 or 2003 for an all round good year.
1975 and 1976 had some terrible autumn months, 1995 had an extremely cold December, 2006 had a cold and cloudy spring.
The absolute worst years were 1954, 1963 and 1986.

Any year in climates like the Azores, East London or Santa Barbara will do for me I'd also fancy spending May-September here and October-April in say Newcastle (NSW), East London or Whangarei.

Dec-Feb: temps around freezing, snow cover on and off but snow available throughout in nearby mountains, maybe occasional foehn effects, 50% sunshine
Mar-Apr: a clear enough warm-up, a definite spring feel the vast majority of the time with no frosts after 15th April, 60% sunshine
May-Sept: avg highs in 20-25C range with not much deviation, only rain coming from thunderstorms, 70% sunshine
Oct-Nov: cool enough nights to get a good foliage display, plus occasional foggy days to add a bit of atmosphere, 40% sunshine

2009 was nice from what I remember. A solid summer followed by a cold and snowy winter. Snow was piling up everywhere and there were lots of traffic accidents due to reduced visibility.

2012 or 2016 easily. Best weather years here. If we can pick and match then first three months of 2012 and the last nine months of 2015
