Madrid and Barcelona are Spain's two largest cities. Madrid is Spain's capital, Barcelona is Catalonia's capital. El Clásico is the rivalry between Spain's two most popular and successful football teams, FC Barcelona and Real Madrid. In terms of climate, Madrid and Barcelona are fairly similar, but Madrid is drier and more continental. Which climate do you vote for in this climate clasico? Barcelona methinks ( Generalissimo Franco took Madrid in March 1939 during the Spanish Civil War).

Madrid for being more variable overall. Summers are warmer but drier. I’d like it to have more precipitation/thunderstorms, but it’s not like Barcelona performs very well in this department either.
PS: It think the Can Bruixa station is sh*t and should be removed from the wiki. My best candidate for a representative station to replace it is the Barcelona Zona Universitària station which belongs to the Catalan Meteorological Service. It has data from 2008 to 2023; annual average 16.8C; January 9.8C and August 25.2C.
El Raval station is also located on a rooftop (annual average 17.9C), while the nearby Barcelona Zoo station lacks rain gauge (annual average 17.2C). Maybe Zoo temp + el Raval rainfall would make up the most representative Barcelona climate data box.

Madrid is superior in every way.
It gets snowfall, sometimes quite a lot surprisingly. Thunderstorms are probably better as well, at least compared to Barcelona.

Barcelona for being rainier and having milder winters. Madrid can get freak blasts of major snowfall and cold in winter, like in January 2021.

The airport station is pretty representative and standard. I see no reason to use Zona Universitària, as it’s similar to the airport. Can Bruixa is too warm though, agreed.

Both are solid A climates, and today I feel like voting for Madrid. I like its more Mediterranean precipitation pattern and its seasonal temperatures. It's very close, I'd might vote for Barcelona on another day.

Damn, that city site makes Barcelona look like a subtropical paradise 😍. But even going by the airport data, I'd still pick Barcelona, mainly due to having noticeably warmer winter highs. Also, it's a little warmer and less arid, even though it's slightly cloudier.
