soil wetness index from low to high thanks to the recent precip. Great stuff: Precip above normal this year so far, clocking around 500 mm on average. The February drought stands out. What an awful part of the year, up there with the May drought.

Finally some interesting weather!
We are being touched by a front of very warm air on Monday, which will be followed by heavy storms and wind, even destructive. The media are already talking about a "summer storm of the decade", and FMI confirms that the potential is there to be once in a decade event. Depending on the timing of the low pressure storm front on Monday, there is a possibility to briefly hit very high temperatures by Finnish standards. Turku, Helsinki Airport and Tampere all have a 32C high on WO, though that is obviously to be taken with a grain of salt.
Here's the maps from the recent GFS run:

Storm, now hitting Sweden the worst, has been postponed to Tuesday morning. That means that we get to enjoy the heat all Monday. FMI has Turku now at 32C, the newest GFS sounding for this area is 31C with a 19C DP, so it will be a humid heat.

Tropical night. Low 25.1C is the highest low ever observed in Riga, the previous record was 24.2C on 23 June 2021. But the cold is near. In the end, this August can be colder than average. One night doesn't make a month.

Dobele weather station has registered wind gusts of 33 meters per second. There are many fallen trees and hail has doe some damage.

New all-time August record for Turku! The high has been 33.0C, which beats the old record by 0.4C!
Rauma, 95 km north of Turku has recorded 33.2C, which is currently the highest in Finland today, and which might be an all-time record for the coastal city. Pori, 140 km north of Turku recorded 33.1C, which is a new all-time August record for them, beating the old record by 0.3C.
For Turku, today was the first tropical night of the year, and the first 20+C DP of the year. 20.5C was the low, and 20.6C the highest DP. hUmIdEx hit 40C.

The n-th Spanish heat wave of the year getting ready. We'll see if we can get the elusive 46C mark somewhere in the south the following days.
Highest reading yesterday was 44.0C in Sevilla (Tablada station). Today, Badajoz climbed up to 44.7C and Mérida reached 44.6C, both in Extremadura (SW Spain).

It was also a hot day in Estonia. The maximum temperature in Võru was 32.5c. The highest in the country was 33.1c (southwest Estonia).
As for the night, the night low was 22.3c. (The highest minimum in Võru should be 24.5c, from July 2012, so no new record was created).
There was heavy hail on the islands, I saw pictures in the media. But all this was far from my area, everything was calmer in my area, there was no storm.

Respect! That's some epic 'n legendary weather by Turdku standards. Warm/hot humid weather is pro-life, crummer and cold weather kills.

The weather in Umeå has been soo strange the last day. We were supposed to be hit by a thunderstorm yesterday morning but it managed to hit pretty much everywhere except right over Umeå, only leaving us with a little drizzle basically. The day was cool and cloudy with temps around 19-20'C until around 4 pm where suddenly the temp rapidly started shooting up to 26-27'C with a 20'C dew point. It stayed above 24-25'C well into the evening and by midnight the temp had only dropped to around 23'C. Then all of a sudden, the temp started rising to 25'C again around midnight. Umeå airport recorded a high of 26.0'C yesterday and a low last night of 21.2'C which is one of the warmest lows ever at the station, and the warmest in all of Sweden last night. The uni weather station recorded a high of 27.6'C in comparison, yet the low was only 20.4'C, surprisingly 0.8'C lower than the airport! 20.4'C was the warmest dew point, at 15.00 Uni temp graph: Airport temp graph: Everyone was talking about how oddly muggy and warm it was, and my friends sent a bunch of snaps of how they were walking around in the middle of the night saying what the fuck is this tropical warmth. Some went on a midnight walk together.

Quite a cool first few days of August. Comparing to other years, one can see that it's not unusual given how bipolar this climate is.
