This might have been done before, but I'll start such a thread anyways. Rank the following biomes (general) from your favorite to least favorite: do you like temperate deciduous forests? Or do you fancy the lushness of tropical forests and find high-latitude biomes ugly? Or do you prefer the open-ness of deserts and other arid landscapes? Tropical rainforests Tropical savannas/grasslands Subtropical/warm temperate deciduous/coniferous (technically counted as temperate, but warmer and cooler temperate forests look very different) Mediterranean (chaparral or forested) Cool temperate deciduous Temperate steppe Taiga/alpine Tundra Ice cap Desert Please let me know about anything I missed.

1- Subpolar Deciduous Perfection in every way. The only example of this forest is the Magellanic Forests of southern Patagonia. The trees are very exotic, their leaves are dark green and they become orange by autumn before falling when winter comes. The only dangerous animal there is the Loxosceles Laeta spider, which lurks in dusty corners of old houses. The climate of those forests is subpolar oceanic, with good temperatures and precipitation.
2- Temperate Deciduous Similar to the above, but with larger trees and denser canopy. There are very few dangerous animals there. Grizzly bears aren't even dangerous, most of their diet is plant. Wolves usually avoid humans. The only dangerous thing I can think of are Black Widows.
3- Taiga/Alpine Evergreen pine forests are nice and aesthetically pleasing.
4- Tundra
Very good and aesthetically pleasing. It looks stunning during summer.
5- Temperate Steppe There are 2 types of temperate steppes, the dry grasslands like the ones from Southern Russia and the American Midwest, or the wet bog filled peaty grasslands of Northwest Scotland and Ireland. The dry grasslands are nice, but the wet grasslands are awful because of the wetty muddy soil.
6- Subtropical Deciduous/Coniferous The biome I live in (Temperate Coniferous). It's mostly ok.
7- Mediterranean It's ok.
8- Tropical Savanna The wildlife can be quite dangerous. Lions and Rhinos are very dangerous animals from the savannas.
9- Ice Cap The lack of vegetation is not something I like. But at least there is no risk of dying of dehydration there.
10- Desert Lacks vegetation, similar to an Ice Cap, but with scorpions, venomous snakes and deadly heat. Not to mention the lack of water.
11- Tropical rainforest Literally hell. Mosquitoes, venomous spiders, snakes and scorpions everywhere. One bite from those fuckers and you'll die. At least in deserts you can see dangerous animals approaching, but in rainforests they might fall from a tree on you. Huge animals like hippos and gorillas also live there. If you are unlucky enough to find a gorilla, you'll get ripped apart by him. If you find a hippo, you're done. Not to mention the abundant diseases. At least in an ice cap you'll die a relatively painless death, much preferable to being molested and eaten by a gorilla, poisoned to death by a spider or dying of Ebola.

I don't like hot weather any more, but I still like the looks of tropical landscapes. I voted for Savanna/tropical grassland.

Am I supposed to be rating climate or how pretty I think the biome is?

Am I supposed to be rating climate or how pretty I think the biome is? The latter - as to how much you like a specific biome, climate can also be a factor in your preferences.

1. Mediterranean - Nostalgic to me as I come from a Med background. Not too green, not too yellow. Beautiful sclerophyll plant species and sweeping olive coloured landscape hinted with the smell of rosemary, lavender and other species. 2. Tropical savanna - Reminiscent of most Australian vegetation I guess. I'm used to this one and I enjoy its 'dry forest' appearance. The non-forested eucalyptus woodlands areas of southeast Australia fall under this. Savanna can be well into the subtropics as well. That's the only change I'd make here. 3. Desert - Ahhh sand, sun, exotic ancient Egyptian music. As per my name, it is an ethereal sight. Only problem it's way too hot.
4. Subtropical broadleaf/coniferous forest - Warm conifer forests are a splendid sight. Reminds me of the Jurassic period with the dinosaurs. 5. Temperate steppe - Nice flat, wide landscapes. A bit boring, but I like openness. Can get too cold in the winter, so I'd prefer more warmer steppes in Mesopotamia.
6. Tropical rainforest - Beautiful vegetation and excellent for growing plants all year round, but suffocating and cloying with the mass greenery. Like, relax!
6. Taiga/alpine - Nice conifer forests, but I'll take the subtropical variant as this zone can have a dead appearance on top of the -40C temps.
7. Temperate deciduous - A landscape that is dead & dreary in winter. Autumn leaves may be beautiful if you have one feature deciduous tree in your garden. I don't want a fricking forest of them.
9. Tundra - Just grey rocky landscapes here right? And with endless, drizzly, grey skies. Ew. Alpine tundra belongs here and they're not that bad.
10. Ice cap - Preposterous. Even my freezer is more alluring.
