Nashville gets down to -15C in an average year? Not bad! Yep, cold snaps there can be quite potent. I actually think in the 1971-2000 data their average annual min was -18 C, they do occasionally get below -20 C there. All time record low is -27 C!

Luqa Airport Malta (1981-2010) 5.5C/41.9F (11a)
For where I live on the coast, (St. Paul's Bay), it would actually work out to around 7.4C/45.3F (11b) based on the average difference in temperatures from Luqa...

edit2: chicagogeorge is barely in the same zone as I am, and sari in a lower according to the USDA map. According to this, I am in the same zone as you (6a). The green around Chicago seems to be a combination of UHI + moderation from the water. Past locations I've lived have been: 6a (Topeka), 7b (Northwest corner of Mississippi), and 6a/5b borderline (in fact, I think this little blue dot may be the place I lived in, as it was a bit of a microclimate because of its elevation).

Yeah, I looked at the wrong part of Missouri. It's all terra incognito anyway. Ok, same hardiness zone and you're ONLY 20 degrees more south.

And it's all thanks to the Canadian Arctic Archipelago! What part of Missouri did you originally look at?

Roughly about -18C I'd estimate here. Probably -19C in the northern suburbs and -20C at the airport three miles further north than that.

ONLY 20! And it's all thanks to the Canadian Arctic Archipelago! What part of Missouri did you originally look at? The northwesternmost corner. I thought that was the Platte purchase. My dream climate is 7a, so not overly eager about those extreme lows.
