This August was the hottest August since 2011, and the third hottest month since that year, after July 2012 and last July. We also had our hottest August temperature since 2012, when the record high for the month was tied. The heat was unpleasant, but at least it was a drier heat. Dewpoints were in the 60s°F (high 10s°C) most of the month, way better than the upper 70s of July. Nevertheless, the heat index still got up around 110°F (43°C) on the worst days. It has also been the driest month of the year so far, with only 0.77" (19.6 mm) of precipitation. Drought conditions have started to reenter the southern part of the state, so that will be something to watch as we transition to fall.

Quite a horrendous month weather-wise - the worst that I've experienced. Easily the hottest month on record (beat Aug 2011 the previous hottest by 3.7F), and also driest August. Set all time record of 110F twice. My PWS and secondary station in an urban part of Alexandria did tend be cooler by a few degrees than the airport. Some thunderstorms broke out with frontal system late in the month but Alexandria didn't get much from them. Even had wildfires in the area, mostly to the west. Dead tree debris from Hurricane Laura 3 years ago exacerbated the spread of fires.

^^^ Nice. Seems like, by quick glance, you got slightly cooler lows, but differential in highs appears to be similar to my PWS here vs. the AP (cooler highs here due to extra vegetation + river moderation but also warmer lows).

The airport station here is next to a large farm field so that may affect the readings there.

Yeah I figured...airport sites tend to be in open clearings hundreds of feet away from trees (serving to increase temps and decrease dewpoints slightly), no exception up here as well, FWIW: cdweather.boards.net/post/234511/thread(The dropped pin is approximately where ASOS equipment is) Perhaps in future summaries, you could also include weatherboxes for your PWS, for comparison's sake? Just my two cents.

Here is a preliminary dataset for the summer months in my area. If I have more time, I'll do maybe for the rest of the months as well. August was warmer than average, although with a lot of rain. June was also but it was quite dry, although not as dry as May. Sunshine was well above average in June and July and below average in August. July and as well the lows in early June were considerably colder than average, which does not leave a very good impression of the summer as a whole.

It was a below average month that failed to hit 30C. The most interesting event was a thunderstorm on Aug 24 which dropped golf ball sized hail and heavy winds on the city. Airport: Downtown: Other airport (15km outside city): The coin is 1.1" in the persons image below: Video someone took of the storm:

August in the other major cities. Moron already made a Perth weatherbox so I left it out.
