Bloody hell ! Thank fuck October is over ! One of the hottest and driest Octobers across the Top End since records began in 1941 ( at Darwin Airport ) October is a 'build up' month in the deep north, but this year, with an El Nino and positive IOD in full force, it has been dry as a dead dingo's donger, hot as buggery, bushfires burning still, and no thunderstorms ( at least, none in the Darwin 'burbs ) Dryest Oct since 1982 when the Airport recorded 1.2mm And, this 'dry season' is the longest and dryest since 1953 when only 0.5mm fell between April 20th and November 1st. 2023 we have recorded 1.6mm between April 28th and Oct 31st. My tropical garden is suffering big time.... Quite a few consecutive weeks heatwave warnings have been in force and I believe there are some monthly mean records set as well, but I need to fact check this.... It's been particularly hot inland from Darwin... ie out at Kakadu and in the Douglas-Daly Districts of the Top End. Rainfall - 0.0mm ( long term mean 71.2mm) Highest daily fall - 0.0mm Max temps - 34.6c av ( long term mean 33.3c ) Highest max - 38.0c on the 15th. Lowest max - 30.7c on the 5th Min temps - 25.4c av ( long term mean 25.0c ) Highest min - 27.6c on the 24th. Lowest min - 24.0c on the 17th. Rainfall - 0.0mm falling on 0 days ( long term mean 20.0mm) Highest daily fall - 0.0mm Max temps - 32.0c av( long term mean 31.2.4c ) Highest max 39.4c on the 30th. Lowest max 24.7c on the 4th. Min temps - 11.9c av ( long term mean 14.8c ) Highest min 27.5c on the 3rd, Lowest min 4.9c on the 28th. As a bonus, here are the Oct figures out at Kakadu National Park Rainfall - 0.0mm falling on 0 days ( long term mean 41.8mm) Highest daily fall - 0.0mm Max temps - 39.3c av( long term mean 37.8c ) Highest max 41.6c on the 26th. Lowest max 37.2c on the 5th. Min temps - 24.1c av ( long term mean 23.9c ) Highest min 27.1c on the 31st. Lowest min 21.9c on the 7th

Same here unironically, very warm/hot and dry but some fall colors are coming, but the real peak will be in November, especially with a potential early November freeze.

SOGTOBER / COCKTOBER 2023 SUMNARY IN SE SHEFFIELD
After starting respectably, the month of Cocktober 2023 can only be remembered for totally shitting and vomiting the bed and becoming the wettest 0ctober on record. What a waste, what a fall from grace with endless hours of cold rain and our second wettest day ever on 20th. Possibly the worst fall from grace seen in any month. The 2nd week in particular was warm and summery, and the much vaunted high pressure and cool "mellow mists and fruitfulness" hoped for in the 3rd turned into a whopping three day dry spell followed by buckets of insipid frontal rain or drizzle thereafter. Much of northern England had severe flooding. Apart from the 2nd week there was no sun either. The last two days were fittingly very cold and almost twilight-dark all day esp. with the comical clocks going back "dark-by-3:30PM" horseshit we don't need.

Found out that the Bandung WU PWS (IBANDU30) would over-read on hot sunny days (like October 16th reading 97.7F/36.5C) so decided not to include it, not to mention the significant moist bias. The Bandung airport station on OGIMET has too many missing data for max/min.

Perth, Western Australia October 2023 summary Max monthly temp: 36.5°C Min monthly temp: 7.2°C Mean Max temp: 26.2°C (+2.9°C) Mean Min temp: 13.4°C (+1.8°C) Rainy days >1mm: 2 days (-3.9 days) Rainfall: 8.2mm (-32.2mm) Sunshine hours: 319.9 hours (+22.3 hours) As you can see Perth was significantly warmer than average this month, significantly drier and a bit sunnier than average. I'm really hoping these above average differences don't continue into summer. I'm loving the dry and sunny weather but it is getting very hot already with plenty of days in the early to mid 30's in mid spring. www.bom.gov.au/climate/dwo/20...1.202310.shtml

Essendon October 2023 Summary:Average max: 19.7°C (-0.8°C) Average mean: 14.7°C (-0.2°C) Average min: 9.6°C (+0.3°C) Max high: 29.1°C (20th) Max low: 20.5°C (21st) Min high: 13.1°C (4th) Min low: 5.2°C (2nd) Precipitation: 75.2mm (144.9% of avg. precip) Precip days: 13 Precip days (>1mm): 10 Sun hours: 209.8 hrs (95.4% of avg sun hours) Highest wind gust: 81km/h from the W (24th) This October was a little cooler than average for maximums but slightly warmer for minimums. It was wetter, and slightly cloudier. The entire month was basically dictated by a strong polar low that pushed its way through on the 3rd, which disrupted the favourable setup that September had and allowed cold fronts to rush through unimpeded. While it gave us a bit of decent rain after 3 very dry months, there were many "meh" days as well. The only interesting things to happen this month were the 26mm on the 3rd/4th, the 20C night and a storm on the 12th. Note: I have altered a couple of the records for the month's summary. 10.4mm fell on the 6th, however the BoM did not record this for some reason. There was also what I believe to be an error for the sunshine hours on the 8th. It states 1.6 hours, but the cloud recordings show that only 1/8th of the sky was covered by cloud at 9am and 3pm, and I remember the entire day being sunny. I entered 10.6 hours for this day assuming that they put in a typo. I emailed the BoM about this and got some generic response back so idk if they will change it.

Warmer than normal and precip well below normal. Not as big of a warm anomaly as the previous two months. Temps +2.9F and precip -3.65" compared to normal. Some decent cold fronts but a long warm spell the 2nd half of the month which was followed by strong cold front for Halloween. Exceptional drought conditions continuing. Water levels are the lowest I've seen. Haven't heard thunder since September. Data for my PWS. About a degree cooler than the airport on average (it was a bigger difference in Aug & Sept).
