Spanish moss is a great indicator of subtropicality in the Southern US, matching up fairly well with my 42ºF mean isotherm in the coldest month for subtropical climates. However, one hot take, I also think it's a very ugly thing, so I rate it an E-.
Quintessential SE US scene, or what I'd consider peak subtropicality, in coastal Georgia.
Approximate range and frequency in the US, indicated the orange, darker is the highest prevalence.

I think it’s cool looking although the trees it comes with aren’t my preferred vegetation. I’ll give it a B.

That map doesn't show any Spanish Moss in Arizona, yet we have some growing on freeway sound walls here, similar to Los Angeles

I'm guessing they have more to do with aridity/precipitation than temperature. Not sure, but I'd assume they represent the theoretical aridity threshold for Spanish moss growth.

E-
It seems appropriate for this thing to be found in the swamps I guess, but I don't want to see that anywhere else in my surroundings or good old woods. Ffs this shit looks like pubic hair/old man's beard/spider webs hanging down the trees. Thanks, but no thanks.
