Steelernation I had no clue that summers in Japan could get that hot that far north, impressive I was surprised too, August was record warm in most of Japan so not a usual occurrence. Some places had average highs as high as 97 f/36 c in August.

Where? That's quite extreme for Japan. Wakamatsu had 35.9 c (96.6 c). Likely someplace slightly hotter but I donโt feel like searching.

Wakamatsu averages 87.4ยบF/69.4ยบF in August via 1991-2020 normals, which is its hottest month. Highs 9.2ยบF above average in the hottest month! The US East is due for a summer month like this.

2023 weather was strange. The third wettest year ever, and December 2022 also had 12" of rain. One day had a widespread power outage, and it flooded so badly another day all classes were cancelled. Then there's the seasonal lag, which was pretty strong even by coastal California standards. Hottest day of the year was in October, and November/December had warmer highs and the same means as May/June.
