Trewartha's climate classification has countless problems that makes Koppen much more preferable, however, with certain adjustments, Trewartha can become better than Koppen.
Trewartha's classification is a poorly executed good idea, while Koppen is a mediocre idea that got executed somewhat well, so by fixing Trewartha we will have a classification superior to Koppen.
The most obvious problem with Trewartha is the oceanic type, which includes very inland continental regions in the east coast of North America and Asia despite those areas having hot summers and great seasonal variation. To fix this problem, oceanic climates with hottest month mean temperature above 22C should be classified as continental, this will make the new Continental-Subtropical border be placed around the latitude of Northern Alabama, so New York City will be continental instead of subtropical as in Koppen or oceanic as in under current Trewartha.
Another change on the oceanic type would be making it include subpolar oceanic and the warmer end of tundra climates without subfreezing months. The reason is because subpolar oceanic climates can still support tree growth and forests, as seen in Patagonia, same thing for warmer tundra climates like Ushuaia, which is located in a lush deciduous forest.
Something else I'd like to change is adding subtypes to each climate type, so for example, Temperate Oceanic (Do) climates can be further divided into Doc: Temperate Oceanic Subpolar (Ex: Punta Arenas, Torshavn, Ushuaia), Doa: Warm Temperate Oceanic (Ex: Plymouth, Eureka, Seattle), Dob: Cool Temperate Oceanic (Ex: Prince Rupert, Edinburgh, Glasgow). Of course, this is is just an example.
Koppen does a terrible job segregating climate zones, since a Temperate oceanic climate like London has way more in common with continental ones like Moscow, than with other oceanic climates like Curitiba and Bogota, the local vegetation proves it as both London and Moscow are surronded by temperate deciduous forests while Curitiba and Bogota are located in subtropical evergreen rainforests. At least under Trewartha, London and Moscow share the same climate zone (D, Continental) while Curitiba and Bogota are classified as subtropical (C). Continental climates should not be their own climate zone as in Koppen, but instead, it should share the Temperate zone with Oceanic climates, as in Trewartha's classification.
And lastly, a Steppe climate type should be added to the dry climate zone, which will include the colder semi arid climates capable of supporting a grassland vegetation unlike the warm semi arid ones who only support thorny bushes.
