Avalon is actually ridiculously good Certainly up there with Oxnard for "best in the west"!

I'm sure everyone can predict my vote. Truckee. One of my favourite climates in the world before my ideal summer started getting cooler.
Also tolerable are Alturas and Redding for their snow potential.
If I have to do without snow, Eureka or San Francisco.
The others are fails - though Santa Maria is fairly reasonable at least.

Redding by a large margin. It has everything I want.

Didnβt bother to check the links. Alturas all the way!
Its definitely a B+/A-. All the others are Ds.

Palm Springs. An epic place with an epic climate. It even has date palm plantations. Just needs a bit more rain and thunderstorms.
Wonder if gets really humid around the Salton Sea, I'd imagine the SSTs get rediculous in summer and would be stifling along its coast?

Winner San Francisco
Top-Tier Santa Maria Los Angeles (LAX) San Diego Santa Barbara Avalon
Middle Los Angeles (Downtown) Sacramento Eureka
Bottom-Tier Fresno Alturas Palm Springs Redding Truckee Bakersfield
Coastal SoCal cities are quite nice too but I would vote SF for located higher latitude and the summer lows. Meanwhile, Eureka is not even on the top-tier because it's out of my lower limit to enjoy the summer. Maybe it's refreshing to experience those average temps on an occasional day, but not as an average summer day. Also their winter precipitations are excessive for liking.

Apparently so! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salton_City,_California#Climate Could anyone find proper climate stats for Salton City from NOAA or WRCC?

I voted Santa Barbara but I'd rather take Santa Cruz or perhapd Big Sur. San Luis Bispo might also take the cake. Looks very green for only being a 600mm Med.

What do you think of Hearst Castle near the ocean at 35N in the hills? This one is one of the best in California too for me, and with that, the world.

Sure, but Santa Cruz has got nicer temps in every month as well as slightly more precipitation. Hearst castle has the odd combinations of too slow spring warmups as well as slightly too hot summers.

Except for the unbearable odour bit, I am so jealous I'm fluorescent green. Would love to see what kind of dewpoints and overnight lows it gets in summer.

Have you ever made a dream climate? I would be interested to see it. It's Dallol but with warmer winters and 50 tropical thunderstorms Dec-Feb. As long as Beerman gets his AC and doesn't have to do outdoor garage sales

Nah Dallol is a tad too extreme.... Phoenix is basically my dream climate. Another one would be Dallas if the winters were a few degrees warmer. 50 tropical thunderstorms definitely. I only just cleaned my AC out, problem is it gets real stuffy inside, maybe the previous owners used newspaper for insulation, would not be the least bit surfuckenprised after the things I've witnessed in my time in this town.

Why did you move to Renmark? I seem to remember you living in a much bigger city in the past. Oh, and perhaps you would enjoy en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Khasab

Oh, and perhaps you would enjoy en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KhasabBecause we spent several holidays here and looked like a top place with friendly people. Yes, there are a lot of good things about it and many people are friendly, but dealing with businesses here is an experience as backwards as one can get, and many of them are major rip off jobs. Shopping hours are also backwards and there is only 2 bottle shops, so extortionate prices with no variety. The demographic predates the jet age and there's a lot of crusty old codgers that looked like they crawled out of the sewer. And I thought you could make some decent money working on the seasonal farms up here while studying, could not be further from the truth.
